The SO waited too late to reserve Commander's. Alternatives?

So, I've been to NOLA countless times but never to Commander's Palace (always wanted to). The SO is there for a conference, with me flying in Friday for a weekend birthday gala, and believed you could call in a couple of days ahead for resv's. Ooops.
What you got as a good substitute on short notice on the same theme/quality as Commander's?? For dinner, or perhaps Sunday brunch..

August. Stella. Galitoire's.... But you can likely get into CP's. If it is just you two you can get in.
For the record, I'd go to Couchon over the above, but having access to those places makes that easy to say. CP really is something you should do.

The Sunday jazz brunch at Arnaud's is really great. I've been a number of times. It's fun, festive and the food is excellent...more along the lines of Old New Orleans foods. I was there on Easter Sunday.
You can order brunch type foods or from the regular menu.
Muriel's in Jackson Square is also a very good Sunday Jazz Brunch choice.
Many folks here recommend Patois, but I haven't been there.

Brunch: Atchafalaya or Patois. or if it must be in the FQ, Stanley.
High End Dinner: August, Stella, Le Foret (You can probably get in to Commander's if you really try)
High End (not super white table cloth): Cochon, Mr. B's

Yes.. tell them your situation.. You're from out of town and it's a birthday dinner. Commander's brunch is really good.. We hope you go.. and DO have the bread pudding souffle.
Oh and without hijacking the thread.. I haven't been yet, but would like to know the concensus on Lilette.
Lilette

Honestly...probably can't get reservations at anywhere listed. Cochon stays as booked as anywhere in NOLA on the weekeneds.
Try Cafe Degas possibly if you're looking for a more intimate setting.

We went this past Sunday. I was very impressed.

Anybody on here with connections that could get him in? Glass maybe?

Le Meritage is the best restaurant in New Orleans that no one seems to mention. They are in the Maison DuPuy hotel and have a very interesting menu that consists of small and large plates paired with small and large pours of wine. It's like a prefixe menu that you pick not the chef.
Look them up online and check out their menu. Oh, they have got the best bread on earth.
If that doesn't work, try out Coquette on magazine. Get the collard green ravioli.

I would try to get into Clancy's or Gautreau's. If that didn't work, my next one would be Tommy's (more casual but still in the nola style). I also really like Arnaud's for dinner. Get there about an hour early and have a couple cocktails in their French 75 bar.
If your looking for a Saturday brunch, try Dante's kitchen....for sunday, i'd do Patois.

Coquette right down the street from CP.

Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I really like every restaurant listed except for Tommy's. You could check out somewhere like opentable to get an idea who has available reservations. There is a huge neurology conference in town.

Another always under the radar spot: MiLa. I've heard good things about Cest La Vie as well. Le Petite? This list is really limitless these days.

Coquette, Lilette, Patois, or Herbsaint are my suggestions.
