I think the bashing of Johnny should stop. I am not advocating for or against him, however I think he faces a severe uphill battle to get the job. Regardless, he's a former player and coach at LSU and doesn't deserve a lot of the things being said about him.

He is chasing his dream to be LSU's coach. More power to him. I can't fault him for that at all.

Are some people doing some stupid things to help him out? (I'm looking at you, Clarence). Yes. That was a bad move and probably hurts Johnny more than it helps him.

Everyone needs to have patience. There is way too much anger over hypothetical hires. Let it play out and I predict most people will be happy.

cannot disagree.

Covered Johnny his one season at Memphis. Tough year with the Tic Price deal but.....

his players liked him, played hard for him and Johnny would have gotten that job if they didn't throw money at Calipari....that is a FACT

I don't have a problem with him personally, I just want a proven winner. I don't think he is that proven winner and I don't think he is going to put butts in the seats.

Listen, Buster...
All you need to know is that Clarence Caesar is going to be VERY disappointed if Jones doesn't get the job.
Bob Petit came to LSU b/c of Jones...

It Johnny Jones would be our next coach it would have already happened by now, however; if he is our next coach, it means he was the only person available to take the job... If that makes sense.

Who has "blasted" him?

Stating he is under qualified and past his prime may hurt his ego, but it's probably fact.

The guy seems nice enough and I haven't seen anything personal in nature?

Johnny Jones would probably be getting a lot more respect if the "Squeal of Approval" BBQ Group wasn't trying to jam him down our throats.

He absolutely does.......he was the buffoon who was essentially the cause of us getting the de facto death penalty that we are still dealing with.

99.7 percent of the people on this board don't know shite about Johnny jones, much less any other candidate.

If coaches were hired solely off their win loss record and Internet reputation, it would be one fricked up association.

This is why the process takes a while. You poke and prod, just like any other big job anywhere else.

With that being said, this is a discussion forum. Some people believe with good reason that he is not the man. If they want to voice that, then let them. You yourself said you don't endorse him. Don't hate others cause they go into more detail

The backlash is coming not so much from Johnny Jones being a candidate, but from it being forced down the fans' throats that he should be the ONLY candidate.

I will support him if he's the guy.

I just don't like Temple (cringe) and so much of the old guard coming out for this guy (and what seems to be) pressuring Alleva publicly...a guy whose resume isn't all that spectacular. Reminds me of a darker time surrounding LSU football.

I've seen a lot more bashing of Alleva for considering him than bashing of Jones for being considered.

Is there a credible link to Jones involvement with Earl? I'm ready to give him a chance, but want to read up on what he did or didn't do.

not bashing here, it's rediculous how the tail always tries to wag the dog and personal agendas and politics muddy the waters when we just need someone who wants to be here and is qualified.....minus the extra baggage sure would be nice too....I know, in a perfect world.

I won't disagree with any of this, but lets not forget he had a big hand in putting LSU on probation that crippled the program for years.

He's a good coach and gets the most out of his players. He's been holding out for an opportunity to coach at LSU. I wouldn't be opposed to hiring him. Unless Shaka would leave VCU of course...
