NOLA is working on a permit that will allow them to sell a small percentage of what they brew.

How's it work when Ave Pub gets these crazy 1 off beers from other countries ? I know one weekend last summer they had all of these crazy Swiss beers that they got in a trade with a pub from overseas.

I understand it's far easier to get imports than it is to get beers from other states. Probably something to do with the importers and licensing. We can get practically any import we want in Louisiana but don't get some of the bigger craft breweries.

Personally believe this has much to do with it.

Not much, it has everything to do with it. Distributors have powerful lobbyist.

This would make me very happy.
I wonder if this means they plan to turn their tasting room into something like a real bar a few days a week or something.

What is the purpose of this restriction? I guess I don't see why being able to do that would be a bad thing.
The perverse society of this modern age simply could not handle the newfound freedom. Obscene acts would inevitably flow as effortlessly as the beer itself. Fortuna herself couldn't predict the sights that would be found in the streets outside of these establishments.

This is my understanding as well.

I assume Importers can pick up a pallet from a brewery or from a distributor in europe without needing a big contract. Just a one time deal.

Why can't we allow a brewery to send beer to LA for a special occasion (mardi gras, beer festivals, etc).

Sure am. I can't make it tonight though. Still in the process of getting moved in. Gotta destroy some tile tonight in preperation of granite installation.

I have a list. I should have most if not all of it done for the next AA meeting. I'm having withdrawals

Beer Distributors for BR:

-Glazers (still has a handful of products)
-Crescent Crown
-Mockler Beverage
-Baton Rouge Beer
-Uncorked Wines
-Purveyor of Fine Wines
-International Wines & Spirits
-Lirette Selections

To answer your question, it is possible to go with a "small guy" and be represented adequately. However if you do that, you're dependent on the stores/bars that carry your product to sell it and market it for you primarily. If you choose a "Big 3" distributor, e.g. crescent, mockler, br. beer, then you have a lot more manpower to represent your product.

At my place of business, we do a lot of the legwork ourselves and don't rely on a distributor for much extra at all. Other stores/bars do not. Other places want the wholeseller to do all of the cooler stocking/date checking/keg cleaning/rotating, etc. with minimal labor expended by themselves....which is BS, btw.

You lose a small army of helping hands if you choose a small distributor but may get lost in a large portfolio if you go with a big one.... catch 22.

This is well said. Not sure what your place of business is (got a hint for us?), but if more owners did their own legwork without relying on Mockler telling them what they should sell, there would be a better beer scene in BR.

Restaurant owners don't let Sysco pick out their food menu, why do they let Mockler pick out their beer menu?

Can you expound on 'doing your own leg work'? So you pick the brands you'll sell and don't just go with the distributor recommendations. What do you base your choice on? previous sales? word of mouth? any kind of marketing research? The distributors put money into the research but it doesn't seem like anyone trusts them to give the straight scoop, they just try to talk you into what benefits them. Well, not everyone thinks that way. One microbrewery rep told me the AB Inbev distributors he works with in the south are a classy group.
