Then we should have offered more money, it's not like we don't have it. We just had an AD at the time that wasn't willing to spend it and risk being upstaged at his own sport.

We probably could have gotten Tanner in 2001. I think he was pretty entrenched there by the time we fired Smoke.

Contend for the regular season SEC title every year. By contend, I mean be in the top 4-5 overall standings. Make the SEC tournament every year. Make the NCAA tournament every year. Host a regional on a regular basis. Make a super regional on a regular basis. Contend to host a super regional on a regular basis. Make Omaha and contend for the CWS at least every 3-4 years. Agree or disagree?

That's pretty reasonable. I would accept a down year every 4-5 years mi think that is reasonable. But the standard you listed is extremely fair for this program.

I don't disagree, but it definitely emphasizes my point about who was making the hiring decision.

agree with all of that. all of that is still achievable this year but we really need to get our shite together. if we miss the tourney again major changes are needed. I still have faith though.

Agree x100, an off year is just hosting a regional or being a 2 seed.

His resume wasn't that impressive. And what would have happened if he didn't get the job, he would whine and cry? Oh shite, he does that anyway.

it was extremely impressive. His numbers at notre dame were ridiculous and he brought them to omaha. He was consistent

and I'm not defending him right now, I just thought he was a good hire with an impressive background

What blows my mind is how huge the difference is between LSU and 95% of the schools that field baseball teams yet we cant seem to get guys who can hit the damn ball.

Exactly. There's absolutely nothing a coach could need that he doesn't have at LSU. It should be a foregone conclusion that our program should live up to the expectations of the OP. If it doesn't, there's nowhere to place the blame but on the head coach. I like Mainieri, but he has to produce. The last 2 years were very average baseball, and I don't want to see that at LSU.

We should host a regional every year. There's no negotiating that. No "every 3 out of 5 years" etc. We should not be anything less than a 1 seed in the regionals. We should not have to travel to UCLA's shite stadium to play.

A regional every year is the precedent that was set and our teams lately have not lived up to it. When that happens you don't lower your standards, you expect the right changes to be made to reach those standards.

I think most reasonable people are on the same page. Its slightly early to hit the panic button on this season but the problems with this team are cause of concern and the trend in LSU baseball right now is alarming and needs to be corrected if we dont make the post season this year. I would even say if we make the post season but dont at least make it to the championship game of the regional a change should be made.

PM turned me off last year with his lack of focus on the baseball team. Forth year at the best baseball school in the country and he's not focused. Really?

How much was the offer?
What did Tanner get?
Thank you.

making the NCAA tournament every year is pretty unrealistic, no matter the program, no matter the sport.

Paul Mainieri is just a lazy coach and he admitted as much after last season. I don't think anyone is happy with the direction of the program but he's getting a huge pass from the fan base.
