I'm very glad to have Ryan Andre in BR, great local chef, with great resume. Absolutely love LeCreole's Crab Cake(even more so at it's original price of $15 just a year ago..now success and demand has it at $18)..

But, outside of their fab lunch deals and drink prices, have at times been slightly underwhelmed with some of their dinner prices and modest portions on some dishes. Yet, still really like the place.

LeC, can at times be like BR's Beausoleil, in having a Clara Peller moment.

I'm a big fan.

I can't seem to break away from the "Tasting of Creole Louisiana" fish dish. I order this every time.

Wife gets the same thing as well. Crispy Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffle.

So much for diversity.

And of course, the crab cake as an appetizer.

Portions could be bigger, for the price, especially at dinner time, but I never walk away hungry either.

Chefs Jetty, Varnadoe, Langlois, and Sclafani, have to be in the discussion. Mark Maggio has never been anywhere close to one of BR's best chefs, though he isn't a bad one. Just bad biz owner. Joey Distefano ran circles around MM's cooking and pasta. Chef Charles Brandt(not to be confused with his sons), in his prime, was the best ever in BR history, and it's not even close.

Terry McDonna (sp) was right there with Brandt. Worked with both of them. Terry was the real Deal. I Worked with Langlois when he was starting, great guy.
Right now, the best chef in town hands down is Varnadoe, who is also a great guy...I actually worked with Varnadoe, Langlois and McDonna at the same place. The second best chef there was a guy named Martin Klier, he might of actually been the best I worked with there.
Don't know what happened to him.

I don't know? Maybe.
He was executive chef at Baton Rouge Country club for 10 years or so after his stent as Executive Head Chef at Lafitte's Landing, so may be the same guy. All I know is he was awesome when I worked with him.

Chef Jeremy Langlois without a doubt. Although not in BR he has been preforming at a high level at Houmas House for the past 6 years or so.

while it's always fun to compete, I don't think those feed-the-masses type events can really determine who is a better chef on a day to day basis personally

There is clearly some doubt. By far. No question. And it's not even close.

Love the hyperbole on the food board.

From his bio

quote:

It was at Café Marigny in New Orleans (now The Marigny Brasserie) that Varnedoe established himself. He was featured as one of the top five chefs in New Orleans in Bon Appetit magazine and twice was named Best of Show at the Louisiana Gold New Orleans Culinary Classic.
