And rent out for football games. Could you image having a dorm with semi-private bathroom, catered, tv's in every room, etc. They would need to build some kind of passage to/from the stadium, but I could easily seeing the rent for $500-$1000 a game plus the catering, etc.

Has this ever been considered within the AD?

They'd have to fix up the dorms big time.

I'm sure there's an Asbestos problem in some of them too.

Talked about all the time. Heard it was unfeasible because of the cost to redesign and install HVAC.

Asbestos is only problem if broke. There is asbestos all over TS and the campus.

Ever hear about mesothelioma? And asbestos related illnesses?

Although I'd love to have lived in the dorms. Sadly the cost of bring them up to the building code is likely cost prohibitive.

As I read this thread a Meslothiloma ad flashed the screen.

I think they stopped using those dorm rooms in the 80s. Anyone here know for sure?

I lived in North Stadium for my freshman year, and believe me there is nothing semi-private about the bathroom situation. Sure, they could maybe spruce up the bathrooms and maybe add stalls for the goddamn toilets and showers, but it's still a communal hall-bathroom set-up.

Man, first time living away from home, that was tough to get used to. You're showering or sitting on the pot, and guys are passing by or brushing their teeth, looking right at you.

My last semester in North Stadium was Spring of 1981, and I'm pretty sure that was the last semester that North Stadium was used as dorms. Some of the East and/or West Stadium dorms might have been used for a while after that, but I'm not sure. South Stadium dorms were already closed by the time I started in the Fall of '80.

Dorms in horrible shape. Some used for offices, but if you look around most of them are run down same with bathrooms. Plenty of rodent fecal matter everywhere.

Stayed in the north-east side dorms in 89-90. Nothing but a concrete cell. Air was an unreliable wall unit and heat was provided by a radiator unit in the hall. And as stated above nothing nice about the bathrooms. Best thing about it was breaking into the stadium and finding innovative ways to steal candy from the store downstairs.

I'd liken this idea to camping. Yeah, you're close to someplace great and beautiful - THERE actually - but your basic amenities suck arse.

I find it odd that South Stadium closed first as it was the newest and nicest by far of the Stadium dorms.....

I'm pretty sure that it did, but it's possible that my memory could be off. That was a while ago.

Here's an old Reveille article about the stadium dorms.

Butch, i had an office in Tiger Stadium for a number of years before the fire marshal condemned the area. There is more to do than just simple renovation. The water was tested and found lead and ecoli. The electric needs complete overhaul. Not to mention the asbestos.

My dad lived in North Stadium in the late 60's. He said it was the coolest place he ever lived even though it really sucked comfort wise. He also said he used to smoke in class to stay awake. I still can't believe he made it out of there with two degrees.

I lived in the stadium in 75 and no you would not have wanted to live there. Kinda neat talking about it but they were terrible.

When I applied in '84, North Stadium was still an option

Why don't they at least keep it clean if they won't renovate it?

They spent 65 million on the last renovation

why in the heck can't they send a scrub team in ?

They should renovate the rooms...how many are there?

LSU can barely keep campus clean that is used by faculty staff and students. Not to mention an area thats not used by anyone and just for storage. Budget cuts have hurt facility service staff the most.
