I wasn't familiar with it until Saturday, but I'd be happy to tell you what I learned. What you looking for in email?

Any tips that would nevrelevant with Saturdays weather. I've been down there twice and am not very familiar the decade area. Fished the same area of north mechant and caught some nice trout but nowhere near a limit. You guys seem to be able to limit out so Im looking for anything someone wouldn't want to share on a public message board.

There must be a decent amount of fish in there if ya'll managed to catch 23 with the weather we had this weekend. Unforseen events kept me home this weekend. At least the boat is ready to go now although i did learn that i left my go to fishing rods at the camp in chauvin

Can I guess? You fished the middle of the lake?

How are you fishing theses areas? And what bait are you using?

Last time I was the week after duck season opened. Gulp shrimp under popping corks.

Feel free to send some of these advice emails my way. I know aboslutely nothing about the area in the wintertime, but am willing to share some advice when it warms up.

I have heard they work. I caught limits almost every day the entire week after thanksgiving using a chartreuse grub under a cork. Most days we just drifted the middle of the lake.

Did you look for anything specific or just randomly stop and cast?

Came out past the rigs veered a little to the southern shore and killed the motor. drifted primarily east to west(of course wind direction is big)a few days we drifted NE to SW. The point on the southern shoreline with the pickett fence is generally a good area to start. We had our best drifts about 2-300 yards out from that point.
One day we killed them inside the point anchored. There were tons of baitfish and shrimp jumping. It was also the only real calm day of the week.
Also on our drifts we would go maybe 5-10 minutes without a bite but then pick up 5-6 in a few minutes. Some people will anchor after a few bites. We also practically drifted the entire lake a few times.....it is unbelieveable how many fish are in that lake.

My question about the area would be about water temperature.
How low can it get and still sustain good feeding activity from the trout and at what point will it be too low? I hear the term "lock jaw" thrown out describing the trout clamming up when the water temperature gets too low.

I am not sure but we fish the deeper canals when the water temps get real low. Slow retrieve on the bottom and most of the time all you feel is a light tap or bump. Usually when the temps heat back up after a strong cold front the trout will feed but I am not sure if that is the case when water temps are in the 40's in January and February. We usually stop fishing that time of the year.

Same here on Saturday. We didn't limit but probably could have if I could have fished another 2 hours.

I may be there also redfish
Yeh the saturday before it was windy as hell and we caught 20 in a few hours. Could have fished longer and caught 50 but the lake was getting choppier and I was tired of cleaning fish all week.

A little past pump station in a piece of shite shed first one after the beige 2 story camp. I need to go down to work on it. I need to replace 4 pieces of tin from after storm back in September. LSU seriously fricked my fishing schedule. I should be down there this weekend. I fish a gray hull blackjack. My tenant has a black & white blackjack.
