Just wondering why some take extra ammo to the stand. I have heard and saw people fill their clips, take a box with them, or take a pocket full of ammo when deer hunting. If its just a morning or afternoon deer hunt why do this? I normally take just what the gun will hold. I mean all it takes is one shot, at worse two. Will you actually need the whole box of ammo and reload that much?

I always carry a few extra rounds with me just in case. Two years ago, I forgot during an evening hunt. I shot a buck with what I thought was a pretty good hit. He got up and kept running. Emptied my clip at him and hit him twice more when he was running. He kept going. Had to walk back to my truck to get more ammunition and then tracked him in the dark before I shot him in the neck. Turns out my first shot was just a little far back and he was angling more towards me than I thought.

Also, you never know when you will see a herd of hogs.

Edit to add: You never know when there will be zombies.

I take what the gun will hold. But there's probably a bullet or two rolling around in my backpack..

I've used all my arrows on a deer. One twice.

I'll take what the gun can hold plus a few. Deer hunting has tought me , mostly indirectly, you just never know what will happen. I ain't takin the whole box though, if its that bad you just as soon quit.

Bullets are to easy to carry to have to worry about running out. I bring 7 for my 30-30 and 9 for my other rifle. All the 30-30s go in the tube and they stay in on of those elastic bands on the stock

I carry about 10. You never know when you may see a few coyotes, or need a few finishing off shots.

Downshift's Dad does not carry enough.

I always consider other outcomes. Like a pack of: Feral Dogs, Coyotes, Pigs, Illegals.

Sometimes three bullets just aren't enough.

Shot 4 times at an 8 point one time. He was crippled but still very capable of getting away. Mag was empty so climbed down and rand 200 yards to my truck and was able to find # more rounds. Came back and missed 2 more times before I hit him with my last one.

I always make sure i have plenty now

I guess I have the "rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them" mentality.

I have ran into a pack of hogs, luckily i had about 10 bullets with me. Killed 6 in about 3 minutes, they were not happy with me.

Only time I carry a bunch is for running dogs. Those slick heads are hard to hit running wide open!

I usually carry at least 7 or 8 with me. I've emptied my gun shooting at a buck and had to reload. I was shooting over him thinking he was further than he was. Rangefinders are your friend

I'd rather be with, as opposed to being without.
