Did Saints waste two draft picks on MI22

Serious question and not knocking Ingram but when you look at the league now days, so many guys drafted low or undrafted are doing just fine. More than capable guys if you have an o-line and a system. Saints/Payton have a system that seems to make the standard RB's have success.
Saints gave up a 2011 second rounder & a 2012 first rounder

They probably weren't expecting to get Sproles and have him go beast mode

Yes. You don't draft a RB in the first round in this day and age, especially with the type of offense the Saints run.
Don't give me the Adrian Peterson stuff, always exceptions to the rule.

yes, this point was raised and mocked on the Saints board at the time. RB's are too easy to find to waste 2 picks on 1. It was an over reaction to a freakish # of injuries at that spot last year.

True, good point

i think so
RB is the most easily replaced position
it's better to pick up a proven free agent than to gamble on a draft pick

Do y'all think Trent Richardson is another exception?

looks like it.
Chris Ivory>MI22 and he was undrafted. So was Pierre Thomas.

Yes. Sproles is a lot better fit for them then Ingram.

This.
You never know how long Ivory will last despite his great production in a limited role.
Pierre is great but seems to get nicked up as well.
He's the workhorse of the future IMO.
This year we probably couldve gained more from getting another defensive difference maker, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who didn't want to take a RB in the draft, and he was the best.

Yes and no. If Ingram can stay healthy, there's the chance he could be a beast in a couple of years.

It was still a bad move. They have too many holes on D and questions on the OL to waste 2 picks on a freaking RB.

drafting RBs aside you have to be scared with how bad he looks in the NFL so far. Too slow to go outside, no power inside.

I think teams reach for RBs because they have such a big impact. Some like Tomlinson, Peterson, and McFadden were easy picks near the top; but it was obvious before the draft that Ingram was not one of those. With Thomas and Ivory already in the backfield, I don't know why the Saints saw that as a position of need in the first place.

yes they did

That's my biggest problem. MI goes down taking a hit right away. Ivory takes a hit, goes another yard, take another hit, falls forward for 2 more
Ingram just seems to hit the turf asap when getting tackled, disappointment IMO

I wouldn't have done it, and I (like most people on the board) see it as an overreaction on a particularly shitty year injury wise at the RB position. That being said, he was a late first round pick... I want to see him develop a little before I label him an "awful" pick.

I was in the camp that #3 was the better RB there anyway.
