Let me start off by saying that both LSU and Alabama's defense were incredible. That said, the offenses were nothing short of pitiful.

And don't give me this "great defenses beat good offenses nonsense." If that were the case, the NFL wouldn't be becoming such an offensive game. With a good quarterback, there is just no way to cover all receivers regardless of how great a defense is.

But, let me ask, what makes everyone so confident that a team with an adequate defense and awesome passing offense(Boise, Stanford, OU, Oklahoma St) couldn't beat LSU(team with awesome defense but only adequate offense?)

I understand we beat Oregon but they hardly have the passing ability to have a really prolific offense. In my opinion, good run defense>good running team but good passing defense<good passing offense.

Because we score a shite load of points against adequate defenses and our defense shuts down good offenses. It's really not that hard of a concept to understand.

History does. Too many recent examples to ignore. Watch more football.

I think this statement speaks more to the sophistication and rise of the QB in the NFL more than great defense v. good offense. I don't think this translates to the college game.

This and the fact that the last 5 BCSNC games seem to have slipped your mind.

The new rules in the nfl allow the offenses to be so prolific. LSU and Bama beat any top teams in the country. Did you see the ok state Kansas score fest? I guess it depends if you like football or flag football...

Did you notice that both teams averaged about 40 points a game before they met up with these 2 stout defenses? Nobody is going to beat LSU or Bama.

With weaker defenses, average quarterbacks can still shine with talented skill players. That "pitiful" offense against a mediocre defense can look 10x better.

On the other side of the field, an excellent defense will never quit. Great QB or not, it will be hard for any team to throw consistently unless they've been playing a similar caliber all year.

We'll take that opinion for what it's worth.

With the yardage that Oregon put up on LSU I would say they had a prolific offense. Yes, the answer is that great defenses keep good offenses out of the end zone. Boise, Stanford, OU and OSU have not faced a defense like LSU or UA. And they might be able to put some yards up, but make no mistake, their fate would be the same as Oregon's.

What teams could take advantage of the weaknesses you saw in each team last night? Just because they each looked beatable against the best team each has played all year, what makes you think that there are similarly talented teams elsewhere that could actually take advantage of the perceived shortcomings?

As I recall from our point of view all we heard about the past two NC games was Oh look how good OU is on offense, Oh look how good Ohio State is on offense. And Oh Flynn and Mauck wont be able to keep up with this offense.

Now hold on a sec... ya we won both of those games.

they were bad, but you must understand how the defense and tempo dictated the gameplans you saw.

It wasn't just the defenses. I was the fact that both offenses dialed it down and waited for the other team to make the mistake.

under Miles that is how they have always won games against good teams.
