I've been to Knob Knoster more times than I wanted, and that's about as southern as it gets!

Only Mizzou game I've been to was at Arrowhead, and, if that game (Border War) is played home-and-home, Mizzou's average attendance goes up quite a bit.

Again, lots of diversity inside the state. North of I-10 is culturally very much like the rest of the south. South of I-10 is culturally very much like nowhere else in the world, with the possible exception of Savannah and Charleston which is why we love it so much.

But trust me, on saturday we will all be glued to it and screaming our fool heads off.

There is the problem. In Jeff City you see no car flags or car magnets on or near gameday, in the south in Nashville even Vandy has some people hardy enough to fly flags or don car magnets.

In the SEC you tailgate for two hours after the game to let traffic die down, in the sec a lot of people go to the game knowing it's sold out but they can tailgate and watch it on the numerous TV's people set up not going to the game but being there just for the experience.

Don't forget that they played Illinois for six years in St. Louis. The dome pretty much sold out, but it did nothing to inflate Mizzou's home attendance numbers.

I wonder how many of them know that among the charter members Florida barely made it into the SEC because the other 12 just didn't see them as enough of a "Southern fit."

Yeah, it's definitely one of the sillier arguments out there.

Like that here in Joplin. I'm sure it has more to do with being Closer to Fayetteville and Norman as compared to Columbia. The only Mizzou stuff I see is in the stores sitting on shelves waiting for people to buy them up.

Now Mizzou basketball in this area is a different story. Mizzou basketball team will even do a charity game here in Joplin for the tornado, plus they know they have a lot of fans for basketball. The game is Oct 30 on ESPNU, wonder how many black and gold shirts we'll see at Missouri Southern.

Game day at Mizzou is one huge tailgate party from Greek Town to the Stadium. Then after the game the party extends downtown. I'm not sure where some of you folks get your information about the experience in Columbia.

And I hate to keep bringing it up, but we set the friggin' ESPN College Game Day attendance record.

Every venue has a different feel. I have never failed to have a great time with great fans at a Mizzou football game - even in the early 90's when they couldn't beat anyone.

wrong. maybe not as loud as other states. but we have a pretty strong southern tradition. both south and north of I-10. I'm very proud of out Southern roots.

Same here. I was being facetious. Kentucky and Tennessee are almost identical in the regions within each respective state and the cultures that exist within those regions. E KY = E TN, W KY = W TN, etc. I was just pointing out that Louisiana doesn't share it's culture with any other state (maybe Gulf Coast MS), and that it has an entirely different history regarding it's settlement than any other state. It is most definitely Southern, just it's own brand that you won't find anywhere else.

Mizzou folk still need to learn what you call those drinks in cans that "fizz" before I agree they fit in SEC.

Calling all soft drinks "Coke" is just plain stupid. It is no different from calling all sandwiches hamburgers. That having been said someone can call it Coke or soda and it really doesn't matter to me. Call it pop and I cringe.

I think Mizzou games are fun. Not as fun as an LSU game, but still fun. I think they'll fit in well with the SEC, and their level of play will have to get better.

As far as the rest of the state... there is a lot of college football up here. Whether it be Mizzou and Kansas, or the smaller Division II schools like Central Missouri (Go Mules!!!!), Missouri Southern, NW Mo State and Pittsburg State. The MIAA (the D2 conference here) is often referred to the SEC of D2 due to the competition and constantly having a team in the championship game. This is a state that loves football. The Chiefs suck and the stadium is full. The Rams suck, and the dome is full.

I think the Mizzou fans will travel well. Also, we're pretty excited up here because we'll get to see LSU play up here if Mizzou joins the SEC.

A LOT of people love their smaller regional football and basketball in this area. Hell even Div 2 MIAA is going thru expansion by getting Central Oklahoma, Northwestern St(Oklahoma), Lindenwood(STL), Nebraska Kerney, which will make it a 15 team D2 conference.

ESPN gave Missouri Southern a shout out during the Joplin episode of Outside The Lines by saying Mizzou is playing Division 2 powerhouse Missouri Southern(ranked #4) in Joplin next week. Um Central Missouri is more of a powerhouse than MSSU but we won't complain, any publicity is good publicity for this area.

It's not about fitting in to the people making the decision, so it's not that relevant.
