That's a lot of info. Can you sum it up, please?

Mizzou will fit in just fine.

No they won't...they are essentially a Big 10 school that the Big 10 didn't want.

I don't find the article very convincing. Basically it seems to say that Missouri compares favorably to the worst of the SEC: "Missouri has higher than the Miss schools", "the state of Missouri is as southern as the state of Kentucky," "they have better coaching than Kentucky or Miss".

Great, so they would not be the very worst, but we already have lower tier teams. Nothing in here justifies carving up the pie into one additional piece.

The more I think about it, the less convinced I am about this whole expansion thing. A&M will benefit the conference, but neither of the other two schools that seem to be serious candidates (Missouri and WVU) bring enough to the table.

if you can't understand the many positives Missouri brings to the table by this point you have rocks in your head

If we're talking Civil War history, sure. If we are talking the modern, current culture of each state, it's not even close. Southern Missouri is just as Southern as anywhere, but that's it. Missouri is not even remotely Southern and neither are 95% of it's residents. Kentucky is known for the horse culture/Derby, bourbon, mint juleps, and fried chicken. I'm not sure what Missouri is known for, but I don't think it's Southern.

At the same time, they are not a bad addition and they are our best option right now.

you have not been on this site long to fully appreciate the vast numbers of people that really do have rocks in their head.

If this is directed at me, I understand the positives that Missouri brings (I also understand capitalization and punctuation which seem to have escaped you). I just don't think those positives are enough to justify splitting the pot one more way and running the risk of diluting the product.

I don't think Missouri is an awful choice, I just think they are "meh" and in the end probably not worth it.

If the many positives Mizzou brings are TV sets only, I do not understand the move. Mizzou fans are not in the same league as SEC fans (and yes, I'm including A&M in that group.)

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the World Series. Because of this, 3/4 of the state does not care who Mizzou plays this weekend.

Mizzou does have some things in common with the SEC, but its not a slam dunk that they fit in. Mizzou is a large state school, has a big enrollment and some tradition, but they're more of a Big 10 school than an SEC school.

I agree with the article that they are more like Arkansas, Kentucky and Vanderbilt than any of the other universitis out there and they are an AAU member, but I personally feel that the SEC can do better than Mizzou.

This is one time I agree with Alabama (did I just say that?) - We don't need them.

I wonder at what point statements like this will stop making me grin so big?

Probably after we lose our first game to Bama 35-0

SEC = the conference that takes the BIG TEN's leftovers. Enjoy your new doormat, suckers.

Yet half of Kentucky is basically a suburb of Cincinnati or Evansville.

Pot, kettle.

Owensboro is one of the most Southern areas of state, and is pretty independent from Evansville (it's not big enough for suburbs).

No one from Kentucky really considers NKY (which is 3 counties) part of Kentucky (not even people from NKY). Ohio can have it. Almost everyone that lives there is originally from Ohio anyways.

The hardliners will probably never support W. Va to the SEC. They will say that West Virginia made the decision not to be in the SEC 150 years ago.

Hell I don't think anyone is excited about Mizzou's game against the #4 ranked BCS team this weekend. Haven't heard any fans talking about it or anything in the media.

Yes I personally feel Mizzou is more of a Big Ten school or they would fit better with the Big 12. STL Cardinals don't play on Fox Sports MIDWEST for a reason.
