If you are hoping that's when the rivalry will be renewed, the chances of that happening is MAYBE once a decade considering the strengths of teams on both sides but hey if y'all want to bust up your little rivalry... by all means drop it. I'm sick of hearing about it.

are these permanent rivalries really fair anyways? I wish could trade Ole Miss for Arky, personally.

i think that LSU needs a rivalry with Vandy. That's what I'd be fighting for.

no permanent opponents. If you want to keep a rivalry going you can schedule as an OOC and it will not count toward conference rankings. boom. done. We can relook at this in 5 years when we go to 16 teams.

this. been saying this for years. permanent opponents is an accommodation to Ala/Tn and Aub/Ga that sacrifices a fair formula for nondivisional rotation.

With Mizzou as #14 the divisions will be unbalanced on paper.

There would be 9 schools that are big dogs or have the potential to be... Bama, LSU, UF, UGA, Tenn, Aub, A&M, Ark, USCe. So no matter one division will have 5 to 4 of these.

I still think Slive has his eye on UNC. It fits better geographically, better academically and athletically than Mizzou, and its the only ACC school worth enough to pay the penalties.

With UNC and A&M, after the SEC takes 3rd tier rights and forms a network, the SEC school will get over $40 mil each per year

what isn't fair about it? The four teams above are all historically strong programs that have to play each other.

1. The ACC has all their schools locked up.
2. You really think that UNC leaves the ACC with Duke, NC State, and Wake to join a conference that has only one basketball power?

UNC isn't happening.

if you were starting a new conference w/ two divisions and no rivalries, not a round robin, you would certainly have a true rotation w/ the other division. right? why? makes the most sense and does not arbitrarily assign a divisional opponent permanently. permanent assignment can work for you or against you. if you have a weak opponent it is not fair to the other teams. if you have a strong opponent, relatively speaking, it's not fair to you.

dabo, I'm just saying it is a possibility being explored still.

To your points
1) UNC is worth the payout but no other ACC school is
2) its not likely but possible. $40mil is a lot of money. And those schools are bball rivals where its easy to schedule each of them OOC

UNC might not happen. But it can't be ruled out

Chicken, nice job laying out a lot of the options and trying to discuss them rationally. I think your option four makes a good deal of sense b/c it keeps all of the most important games and balances out the Big Six with three in each division. Geogrpahy isn't perfect, but close enough:

4. Take option 2 and flip flop Tennessee and Miss State:

SEC East:
Florida
Georgia
Miss State
South Carolina
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

SEC West:
LSU
Alabama
Mizzou
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Tennessee
Ole Miss

Comments/Issues: Alabama and Tennessee in same division...permanent rivals are:

LSU / Florida
Alabama / Auburn
Mizzou / Vanderbilt
Arkansas / South Carolina
Texas A&M / Georgia
Tennessee / Kentucky
Ole Miss / Miss State

Yes, kick out MSU and Vandy and tell Mizzou thanks but no thanks..

No matter what. The SEC-W looks like it will remain the toughest division in all of CFB

I find this very hard to believe.

As much as I would love this, I find this very had to believe, too. I hope you're right.

no, but I think an effort has to be made to make it geographical. I think my option 4, while not perfectly geographical, is geographical enough to satisfy most teams in the conference...Tennessee would have to biggest issue, losing Florida.

If choosing between Florida and Bama, it would be Bama by a long shot.

how about this... if Bama and Tennessee wanna play every year they schedule it as an OOC game in the years they don't play in league games

How about Auburn and Alabama just do that? Since Auburn would be playing all their other major rivals, anyways.

GumBro, to make the change more palatable for Tennessee, a permanent opponent schedule would be as follows:

LSU / Florida
Alabama / Auburn
Mizzou / Vanderbilt
Arkansas / South Carolina
Texas A&M / Kentucky
Tennessee / Georgia
Ole Miss / Miss State

The Big Six would all play each other, which the TV networks would like.
