Note: this thread assumes an 8-game conference schedule, and all mandatory rivalry games are preserved (eg, Auburn/Georgia).

1. Obviously, the easiest idea to implement is keep current division set up and shove Mizzou in the SEC East.

SEC East
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Mizzou
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

SEC West
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Miss State
Ole Miss

Comments/Issues: very balanced, but not truly an East/West split with Mizzou in the east. Mizzou will want to maintain presence in Texas by playing A&M every year, but might not get their way since Florida and South Carolina will want to play A&M yearly. Also, you only have one rotating team from other division, so you play six teams less often.

2. If you were to truly split up the conference geographically east and west:

SEC East:
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

SEC West:
LSU
Alabama
Mizzou
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Miss State
Ole Miss

Comments/Issues: One issue with this is that Alabama now has two "permanent" rivals in the other division. Can Bama and Tennessee live without their yearly game? Still have the issue of one rotating team from other division. Also, East would have four of the "Big 6" schools.

3. If you want to avoid issues with permanent rivalries, you cram the five teams most affected into the same division:

SEC East:
Florida
Alabama
Tennessee
Georgia
Auburn
Kentucky
Vanderbilt

SEC West:
LSU
Arkansas
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Mizzou
Ole Miss
Miss State

Comments/Issues: not geographically true (due to South Carolina in the West), but permanent rivalry issue is gone. Each team can rotate two cross-division games, so you will play each team from the other division more often than the other scenarios. South Carolina put in the West to help with division balance. East is too "loaded" from a historical perspective, although if this set up existed this year, it would be very balanced. LSU loses yearly games with Florida, Bama and Auburn.

4. Put Miss State in the East and Mizzou in the West:

SEC East:
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Miss State
Kentucky
Vanderbilt

SEC West:
LSU
Auburn
Alabama
Arkansas
Mizzou
Texas A&M
Ole Miss

Miss. State would move to the East and Mizzou would move to the West. Permanent cross-division games would be:

LSU / Florida
Auburn / Georgia
Alabama /Tennessee
Arkansas / South Carolina
Mizzou / Kentucky
Texas A&M / Vanderbilt
Ole Miss / Miss State

Is there really any other division set up that can be put on the drawing board, using the 8-game schedule and permanent rivalries as a guide?

If the frequency of playing teams from other divisions is an issue, you don't have to play the teams in back to back years...play them at home one year, and then away several years later.

What are your thoughts?

I think option 4 is the winner...

I think option 1 is where this whole thing is headed. Mizzou might get A&M as perm rival and would get to play in TX every other year(unless rumors of LSU new perm rival bring SC is true with Mizzou getting Arky-I highly doubt this though). I could care less about perm rivalries but I think its painfully obvious that they will be preserved. I would probably be more in favor of option 2 or 3 but I just can't honestly see that happening

#2 and make the Iron Bowl and not every year deal.

That way AU is happy being in the East, and bama is happy keeping the third Saturday.

I like option 2 also...but would you really expect the Iron Bowl to go away?

I've been a big supporter of Mizzou joining the SEC. However, if they wind up in the east and aren't paired with us, I'm afraid they will turn back into a doormat. The Big 12 started playing football in 1996. Look at their history before they started recruiting Texas. I would hate to see a good add turn into dead weight.

So, option 1 with Mizzou/A&M paired up? Would A&M be ok with this?

I think a break would do both fanbases a lot of good.

I've heard more Auburn guys say they would be ok with Iron Bowl not being yearly but it seems like the majority of Bama fans want to keep playing both. From what I understand though, if forced to choose, I think Bama would keep the TN game over Auburn..

that surprises me. y'all moving to the east solves a lot of problems in an 8 team conference schedule.

Meh, any bama fan will be glad to tell you how much they loooooove the Tennessee game so much more than the Iron Bowl. So I say, let them have it.

How bout this, if I get my way and AU goes to the East and drops bama, would LSU be willing to switch Florida for AU? Its been a pretty entertaining series thus far.

One more option...take option 2 and flip flop Miss State and Tennesee:

SEC East:
Florida
Georgia
Miss State
South Carolina
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

SEC West:
LSU
Alabama
Mizzou
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Tennessee
Ole Miss

Alabama and Tennessee in same division...permanent rivals are:

LSU / Florida
Alabama / Auburn
Mizzou / Vanderbilt
Arkansas / South Carolina
Texas A&M / Georgia
Tennessee / Kentucky
Ole Miss / Miss State

If Auburn went East, I think it'd be great to play them instead of FL every year. I really enjoy the FL game but AU just brings something else to the table. The guys I watch the LSU games with(myself included) get way more hyped for the AU game

I'm I seeing things or does your list of legitimate options grow every time I visit this board?

ETA: I say move Tennessee, USC, Florida, and Georgia to the West, and Ole Miss, Miss State,Mizzou, and Texas A&M to the East. The good teams all play each other, preserving the important rivalries, and who really cares who the scrubs play?

sorry...typo...corrected.

what do you think about option 4? LSU would lose annual game with Auburn, but could face them in title game. We would pick up annual game with Tennessee. We could keep Florida as permanent rival or pick up UGA, and let Florida play Texas A&M.

I think this is the way to go...thoughts?

I think it will be #1 and it pisses me off.

Let Auburn go to the East where they want to be and to hell with Alabama and Tennessee. If their game is so important to them then they can schedule each other as a non-conference game some years.

LSU has been forced to give up SEC night games in Tiger Stadium. LSU and Kentucky had to can our annual game when we went to 12 teams. Auburn and Florida had to give up theirs. Some of us have already made sacrifices so the Gumps and Hillbillies can too.

Having said all that I know lots of Missouri alumni and fans. A large number of them don't mind at all if they are put in the East. They realize that the travel distances are not much different and feel that they can compete in the East much sooner and easier than taking on LSU, Alabama and Auburn in the West.

With that proposal, you lose Tennessee/Florida. AU would miss out on Tennessee which is part of the appeal of moving to the east.
