So you admit I'm superior...thanks.

Know who needs the definition of modest?

ETA: That was a rhetorical question.

Nope, they never do.

They owe their team and school, though.

but your constant attempts to influence the direction of the vote and your constant arguments with posters who obviously do not agree with your position has totally invalidated this thread as a "poll".

I am attempting to stimulate discussion. Ever hear of Devil's Advocate?

BTW, have i advocated a side, no. As you so astutely pointed out, All I have done is throw counter arguments into the mix. Discussions are boring if everyone agrees.

So I am supposed to determine what to do based on what you think I should do? And you have the moral indignation to lambaste people who take umbrage wit the actions of the players....

pot meet kettle.

, I comprehend quite well, you are losing and attacking like a pab.

losing what?

Interestingly enough i feel that justice was delivered for a team infraction and the team has dealt with the issue....my personal feelings on the issue aside, if you are unable to adequately defend the oppositions position, you fail to understand the opposition.

BTW, your pompous "signature" on your reply earlier was entertaining.

Since the fans of the University were fans before, and very likely after the players leave, why is this motivation a negative.

Because it highlights for me why the players don't really owe the fans anything; The fans are in it for their own gratification. Players being able to develop themselves and prepare themselves for success in life is secondary. The fans don't really care about most of them as people (see Jefferson, Jordan), only as performers. So maybe I'll bend and say that they should always strive to perform their best, but that's it.

And, for the record, whether an average fan likes it or not, any practice squad wannabe that ever suited up for LSU for even one season is more connected than any lifelong fan. Get that straight. We are spectators. The worst player on the team is a more important part of the team than you or I will ever be...because we've never been on the team.

I havent seen it ever brought up...and am genuinely curious why a Cornell grad in DE would have such a driving affinity for LSU. Care to answer?

Not about me specifically, but there have been numerous "are alumni fans more "real" than non-alums" threads. Look em up yourself. And in case it didn't occur to you, I was born and raised in Baton Rouge and grew up cheering on only one CFB team. My family is from south La., my mom and several cousins are alums, and I spent my entire life in Baton Rouge until going off to school. I never gave a damn about Cornell's programs save Wrestling.

Christ sakes....I am getting the blues again.
LSU is having troubles...Here comes that long black train stopping at my door again... I see the blues as long as my eyes can see.

A funny thing my Pop-Pop once said: When you pay your own way you have to answer to nobody.

A blue chip fooball player at a top-tier program more than pays his own way. They generate millions in tickets, mechandising, and television revenues. They actually pay the way of other, unprofitable student athletes as well.

And, again, let's be clear; Fans are buying a product. Entertainment. You aren't donating anything to charity. You're paying for tickets because you derive gratification from seeing a team wearing your colors kicking arse--generally so you can talk trash around the water cooler (I do it, too). It's a quid pro quo. All the athletes owe the school is to do their best. If it isn't good enough, you're free to stay home--and many will. But the school will continue recruiting athletes, hiring and firing coaches, and working to get a winning product on the field.

Because a winning product is worth almost $100M a year--little of which goes into players' pockets.

Apparently you have and you've been called out on same by several posters.

Never advocated or suggested such. Never have attempted to sway your opinion. Just stated mine.

Not at all, I'm disappointed that certain players put themselves in a position of possibly being suspended for violating team rules. I don't however espouse a position that the fans are owed anything by the players.

Pompous? No. Just stating a fact of which I am proud. I earned two degrees from LSU and donate to the University (education not athletics), both items of which were introduced in this poll...er.."discussion" as sonehow being pertinent to said discussion and how a person should or could possibly view the situation based on their association with LSU (ie. alumni, donor, etc.).

depends on what you mean by "owe" and "fans"

i think people who graduated from LSU, paid taxes in the state, tuition, bought tickets, merchandise, and donated to the school have some legit expectation for high-profile student representatives of the school who are going there for free to not do stupid shite and put the school in a bad light.

also, LSU gets a lot of money and good press for having an elite program and playing in big bowls, esp BCSCG. I think the "fans" (as defined above) have a right to expect the players to refrain from jeopardizing those things via stupid actions.

Yes, but that doesn't make them any less human and prone to the mistakes of youth.

The fans are paying for the players to go to college, directly through the money TAF gives the university to operate, pay for athletic scholarships, etc. and indirectly through tax dollars that go to the university.

Not to mention, no fans, no shot at the NFL

In the NFL, fans pay players salaries. In college they don't. No player at LSU owes joe six pack fan a damn thing.

Only acceptable answer. Now, players being fools because they think they are bigger than the program is a totally different matter.

no response? just repeating same junk? whatever. i agree, people need to chill. i'm far from angry. to me it comes with the territory. it's college football, hence college students playing it. they'll pay for their mistakes and move on.
