I'm stupid for laughing at your rhetorical question.
it wasn't rhetorical...should I define the word "rhetorical" for you?
Or do you think you can muster the three brain cells you have, that are banging into each other to head over to google?
BTW, the taxpayers don't pay the Athletic Dept.
Care to try again there...probably not though.

The players are on scholarships. They owe the university and their teammates their loyalty. They should follow the rules.

there are special academic resources only for players, and I understand with the demanding schedule that such help is necessary when an athlete puts in 40+ hours with the team and then has schoolwork.

I would venture to say that most aren't paying their own way. All my friends with kids at LSU their on the TOPS scholarship.
And there are provisions they have to live up to in order to keep that scholarship, just as the athletes have provisions.

I DO think the athletic department does owe something to those that help fund that department. Sidewalk alumni that provide no added value? Heck no.
no argument from me.

Reading your posts, even though I've burned a lot of brain cells, I'm pretty sure I still have more than you ever had.

where does the Athletic Dept get their money?
From many sources, including but not limited to the following:
A subtantial amount from Conference TV contracts; a substantial amount from royalties from merchandising contracts; a split of the conference Bowl Pay-out pot; and the balance from ticket sales, concessions, and parking fees.
The point I was making to the poster to which I responded, is that his/her assumption that taxpayer money (state funds) being used for the education of schlorship athletes is fundamentally wrong, the athletic department pays LSU, the institution of higher education, for the tuition and fees for all schlorship athletes. Basically, his/her righteous indignation was misplaced.
As for your assinine assertions of fans being "owed" by the players, well my opinion is you are full of it; and furthermore, when the responses to your query are not in the majority to your liking you keep attempting to bend the discussion to the source of the $ in a futile attempt to justify your position. All a fan does is pay for entertainment.

definition of rhetorical:
quote:
rhe·tor·i·cal [ri-tawr-i-kuhl, -tor-]
1. used for, belonging to, or concerned with mere style or effect.
2. marked by or tending to use bombast.
3. of, concerned with, or having the nature of rhetoric.
Man you are one stupid motherfricker.....I actually feel bad for you being that stupid.

what assertion you clown..it's a poll.

I suggest you apply some of the knowledge you have from your "degrees" to reading comprehension.
ETA: the point about me asking where the Athletic Dept gets their money from was to point out that contrary to your previous assertion...the fans are very much a part of the overall system. And as most people understand, removing the financial backing to a system does not allow such a system to continue along it's current path.
Regardless of what YOU think they have paid for, those fans buying the tickets or spending the money are buying it for their OWN reasons....interestingly enough, i don't think they considered your opinion on the mater.

That's hardly "fluff"
I didn't say the fans weren't important to LSU football...just sayin what I think the fans are to LSU football players. you play a game that can lead to greatness and that can also lead you to a wheelchair. it is quite natural for players to insulate themselves from the fans because the fans are sitting on their fat asses with only their bloated ego's at risk. considering the love/hate relationship most LSU fans have with the program it is abundantly clear to me that many, many players couldn't give a rat's behind about the fans and their Jeckyl and Hyde emotions.
clear enough for ya?

Yes, they have to keep an certain GPA. Although lower, the football players have to maintain a certain GPA.
My point is that if someone maintains the belief that football players getting a subsided education owe donors something, then it should hold true that the general student body that is on TOPS owes us something too.
I just don't subscribe to either theory.

Your intention may have been for it to be a poll, but your constant attempts to influence the direction of the vote and your constant arguments with posters who obviously do not agree with your position has totally invalidated this thread as a "poll".
Oh, I comprehend quite well, you are losing and attacking like a pab.

I may agree that players owe themselves and their team alone but I think responsibility is the key word when talking about fans and the university.
They are responsible for their actions because in a way they are spokesmen for LSU. We are part of the LSU community and we have the reasonable expectation that our athletes will make wise decisions when faced with choices that impact more than just themselves.
On the other hand, I suppose players might owe the Alumni Association. Those alumni donate to provide scholarships and facilities for the players. I would like to know my donation is going to a responsible student-athlete who appreciates the opportunity to play and makes every effort to represent the university well.

Serious questions: Why do you seem so angry and why do you feel compelled to insult people so often? I find that to be a rarely effective device for discussing or debating things.
You have a pretty cool sig illustration and for some reason it's always kind of jarring to see that accompanied by just out and out insults.
