Who are the parties involved in that agreement?

LSU and the player.

Once again, where does LSU get the money to fund these agreements and the services the players enjoy?

There is what 100 players on the team? If you took a 100 college kids(non athletes) I am sure there would be more problems on average whether it be drugs, fights, DWI's etc. I just don't understand why some fans hold them to a higher standard than other kids the same age. In most cases when an athlete is in the wrong they suffer more consequences than the average college student.

Because the average student is not getting a totally free education, free books, free meals at select restaurants that they can go in be asses to the staff, free drinks at bars and when all said done get an upper hand on jobs just because they played football for LSU.

I do feel they owe me a little something not sure how much as my tax dollars help support their education because the play ball. Also the donations that I and my family has made to LSU, and the money that i spend every home game to watch them. Without fans spending money, they do not exist.

Your tax dollars are not paying their scholarships. You do realize how much money those athletes on a free ride generate for LSU don't you?

Plenty of regular students do this.

Asked and answered. U can try and pretend that the athletic department doesn't exist but it does. Fans pay for tickets they get tickets to a game. Nowhere in the sale/purchase of the tickets is some provision for extra benefits given to fans by individual players.

what extra benefits? What are you talking about?

Do the fans who buy these tickets expecting to see #7 play on Saturday not have a right to be upset that he is not?

Owe may not be the word, however the players "expect" certain things from us as LSU fans; so i guess it is fair for the fans to "expect" certain things of the players.

Again, that is one way of looking at it. Players on the other hand don't look at it that way. They don't see the fans sweating, bleeding, throwing up, running with them in August and spring practice.

If we look at is as they owe us something, wouldn't we have to look at it as the general student body owes us something too since it is our tax dollars and lottery money send them to school and providing the facilities? If some Joe Blow student gets arrested does he/she owe us an apology?

That being said, I do believe the coaches owe the fans something. To me, I sort of look at is as a chain of command. The players are buck privates and the coaches are the generals that have to report to the donors. Same with the general student body. The students are buck privates and the upper administration are the generals.

dislike.............

i try to live in gratitude instead of fear.

negativity comes from fear.

fans who think they are owed something by the players are people who think they are owed something from everyone.

be grateful for what you have instead of this negative self hate shite.

find faith. judge not lest you be judged.

does Joe blow student have access to the amount of resources and advantages of a student athlete? is Joe Blow paying their own way?

A funny thing my Pop-Pop once said: When you pay your own way you have to answer to nobody.

Then should the fans be upset with Miles and Co. for the amount of off the field issues that have occurred...an interesting thought.

While I agree in principle, if the fans were to turn against the players or the team, and stop attending games, then Miles and the players become persona non grata almost over night.

I think that depends. No, they don't have the access to the athletic resources. But they aren't there to win a title. Over four years, they could have the access to the same academic resources.

I would venture to say that most aren't paying their own way. All my friends with kids at LSU their on the TOPS scholarship.

I DO think the athletic department does owe something to those that help fund that department. Sidewalk alumni that provide no added value? Heck no.

Yes in a sense that they jeapordise the team with stupid mistakes. No in a sense that they don't deserve constant bashing.

You have it backwards.

The UNIVERITY owes you, not the players. It's the University getting your money, not the players, so they owe you a quality product.

The UNIVERSITY owes the players. That's why the university pays the players with a scholarship and a stipend. The players also owe the university to the extent that they are basically in a contract with the university.

Let's not forget who's actually making the money here. The university charges a premium for their product, and effectively pays the players very low wages.

If a player makes the university look bad, it's the university's fault for signing that player.

Spencer Ware was a 5* recruit out of OHIO. The university persued him and was glad to have him when he signed.

Players do not owe fans.

I have given lots of money through TAF and the players don't owe me jack squat for that. It was my choice.
