So you are saying people wouldn't be incensed if the price was just $20?

of course some people would be incensed. Some people would be incensed at $5 parking.

Personally, I am fine paying $40.

I have spoken to LSU officials numerous times about an excess littering fine for some of these pigs around the parade grounds and indian mounds.

The WVU trash last year is what got the ball rolling on the pay for parking ordeal. Some of the frats around the parade grounds were spoken to from LSU about their trash and leaving numerous couches behind but a excess littering fine is the only way to eliminate it.

I love how LSU decided that the way to get the frats (mostly) to clean up their trash is to fine everyone a rather ridiculous amount to park.

well it was a combination of hiring additional personel for trash pickup that game, the removal of 13 wooden poles with ropes along Nicholson, and somebody putting a red bull can down a toilet causing drains to plug and a pipe to burst on Sunday in Tureaud.

Campus looked ridiculous after that game and crews were still cleaning up monday morning during classes. In comparison campus didnt look bad at all this past Sunday and was mainly cleaned up by 1pm.

So they made money and may have fixed part of the campus trashing problem?

Can someone please explain to me how charging for parking is going to fix the trash problem on campus after big games?

People keep saying the parking fees are somehow fixing the trash problem, but I have yet to hear how.

It offsets the costs of hiring extra personnel for cleanup and repairs and may deter undesirables from doing in the first place. As so I understand it.

From what I recall hearing from those in charge would be that the parking fee may cut down on tailgating and the additional income can be used for hiring personel to help keep campus clean. Its not all prisoners as many seem to think. The money raised from parking can also be used to make repairs to curbs, sidewalks, wooden posts, etc...caused by tailgaters

If I recall it was like $80 to replace each wooden pole pulled up along Nicholson.

Some buildings are open for restroom use on gamedays and they do sustain damage as well.

It will certainly cut down on tailgating. That I am sure of. I'm just not sure that the people that are going to quit tailgating are the ones leaving most of the trash. From my experience, it's the younger crowd that leaves behind the most trash and most of those people walk to campus or carpool anyway.

As far as creating revenue so clean up crews can be paid, that makes sense.

Somehow, I think all of this is a good excuse by the powers that be to create a new revenue stream without hearing too much bitching.

$40 per car will allow LSU to repair every fricking light and curb on campus and who is going to complain about the university trying to fix all of these broken items? Although I doubt there is that much damage done.

They should use the money they get from parking to put more porta-potties on campus.

Why aren't they being charged, then?

All the fraternities were out in their same spots on the Parade Ground on Saturday. It did nothing to deter them. Why? Because their social dues pay for the parking of the trailer and vehicle and anything else can be carried by pledges from their house.

How bad does everyone think the parking will be for the possible 11:30 early game with Kentucky? Driving in from Florida and have NO IDEA what to expect.

Have you ever been to an early game? When does the parking fill up?

This!
This wasn't done to punish litterbugs. But that's a great way to sell it. We are meticulous about picking up our area. So why are we getting charged??
Because it's a money grab, plain and simple.

I cannot understand all is complaining about $40

1. Share the expense with friends. One truck/SUV full of stuff, couple of tents, a TV, small gen.; food etc. good for 10 couples. Less than $5/couple
2. Oh hell, my Uncle and Aunt from down the road have to walk 5 blocks to get to our tailgate now! Cry me a river, if its that darn hard, stay HOME!
3. Oh, we used to have this huge tailgate visiting with friends some of whom did not attend the game and we enjoyed watching it on TV. There is a football game going on later, and you should have intentions on attending THE game.

I have been attending LSU games since 1968, In 1990 I decided to get season tickets and through the years I have seen the rise of good tailgating and extremely bad. In years past individuals, who have had season tickets but live in other parts of the state or region had to leave home at 5-6:00am getting to BR around 9:00am to secure a decent spot. That should not be necessary!

I have driven on the campus Sunday morning as I plan to catch a plane that afternoon and have seen my dear school look like a war zone. The reason for the $40 is an attempt to keep the individuals who do not have intent on going to the game out. Many of these people come to campus simply to party all day and TRASH the campus. I think $40 to park in close distance to the stadium is a bargin! Try it at another SEC school! As another posted stated they need to FINE people who leave trash. Put a few extra Hefty Bags in the truck and pick up your litter.

It is sad, but we are all paying for the poor conduct by some. If you want to do something constructive, take pictures and license numbers of people who leave heaps of trash on campus and forward it to the University security. Its a UNIVERSITY of higher learning that has a good football program, rich in tradition. The fans of the school respect it's grounds, others who have caused this situation are not fans IMO. I know that the vast majority are great people and love and support the school but you are now paying for that small majority! If something is not done about the trash, tailgating will go the way of U.GA, highly restricted and Done!
