Fla St don't really bring in any new viewers.
FSU is different from the Clemsons/GaTechs. First, FL is a big state population wise. Their smaller slice is big compared to others. Second, having FSU shifts more value to the SEC because we would have by far the dominant share of FL. If you want to advertise to the college sports audience there, then you would have to deal with us. In fact that would be true from Ark/LA to GA/FL.

I hope so as well. Huge market here in NC and no one else really cares about college football.

Everyone already bitches about how far away Fayetteville is. Add another 5.5 hrs and turn the temp down another 10-15 degrees come late October. Oh and yankee liberal fricks also

Interesting. I agree with those who say that UNC would be awesome, but I just don't see it happening. UNC is the heart and soul of the ACC and they have strong ties and rivalries with Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, Maryland and Virginia. I think the alumni would simply revolt if they left all that for more television money.
Missouri makes some sense because it expands the geographic and television markets without adding too much competition on the field, but it just leaves me cold. TBH, I don't think they deserve to be in the SEC. They aren't great and they aren't southern (or eastern).
Maryland is in a similar position to Missouri in that they bring some new markets, but culturally that just doesn't seem like a good fit at all (in fact, they seem similar to UNC in that regard b/c all of their rivals are in the ACC, esp UNC and Virginia).
Va Tech would add eyeballs nationally and open up some new recruiting and television markets. TBH though, I'm not sure the SEC needs another program of that caliber...it is darn tough as it is. Seem like a decent fit culturally. I'd be surprised to see this go through after all the hub-bub to add them to the ACC so recently.

I would be absolutely stunned if Maryland were the SEC pick. The fanbase sees itself as more in line with the Big 10 than the SEC. The athletic program is in need of some major revenue boosts, so it is possible the AD will follow whatever he sees as the biggest payday. But, as someone with a deep fondness for the Terps (as opposed to my love for LSU), I don't see that Maryland really adds much for the SEC.

Maryland would be a horrible addition. Their FB program sucks and nobody cares about CFB around here. Virginia Tech fans often outnumber Terps fans whenever the two schools play each other in Byrd Stadium. It should be Virginia Tech or bust. UNC's not leaving the ACC and Mizzou would be an awkward fit in the SEC. Again, I don't understand why Texas A&M is worth all this hubbub. They haven't accomplished anything of note outside of a ten year stretch when the SWC was on its last legs.

When did these arse clowns get in the mix? Hell why not invite the University of Quebec!
Mizzou- meh
UNC- I like but don't see it happening. I would also be happy with an NCSTATE. How large in UNC's stadium?
VT- is OK with me also....not that Slive or anyone else gives a shite, lol.

thats any major program rolling through there the past few years but we both know if Maryland ever gets back DC will be a Terp football town

Maryland makes all the sense. It contols the media, everyone who was talking about the "DC market" and VT don't know a thing. Maryland is the school in that area, including DC and northern Virgina which equals $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
period. Perfect fit. You can't look at this as a fan, who's better in what sport blah blah blah
they are in a BCS conference and have been to BCS football bowls and won NCAA tournaments. That's all that matters, they are competing and bring a huge amount of alumni (power alumni too) and eyeballs

There no way in he'll that it's UNC.

VT fans fit right in with us. 2007 game was an unreal party.
Posted on 8/29/11 at 9:47 pm to stapuffmarshy
I have lots of family in DC. I have never met a Maryland fan or alum and don't see a ton of Maryland stuff around. I've met a ton of VT alums and see VT stuff everywhere. I have no idea on the actual numbers or anything, just personal experience. VT is a much better cultural fit with fans and their support also, though I know that probably means very little in all this.

Drop Maryland and UNC add ND to make a 16 team conference. While dreaming might as well drop Mizzou and add Oklahoma. (A&M, Ok, ND, and VT ---- Not bad)

Missouri would be a pretty good addition, but I really don't want to have to move Auburn East.
UNC is ideal because it adds a decent football team, tons of viewers, and a tremendous basketball program that would establish the SEC as more than a football school. I just don't see it happening though.

FSU is the only one that makes sense. Television market or not, when I hear DC cited next to VTech I want to laugh as if they encapsulate that market.
Posted on 8/30/11 at 1:23 am to nicholastiger
If the conference adds two western teams and wants to keep the geographical split in teams - you'd likely see the end of the Iron Bowl every year. Auburn would be playing in the Eastern Division.
I'd like to see them add one team on each side to keep the divisions the same +1 new team.

Or Maryland. Neither school would seriously consider the SEC.
