Aaron Fitt Tweets:

Big news out of D-I Baseball Committee mtngs. NCAA will experiment with replay at '12 CWS; RPI formula will weight road wins over home wins.
quote:
Will have plenty more on these changes, but quick take is that both are welcome changes. New RPI formula is more fair to cold-weather teams.
quote:.
Big South commissioner Kyle Kallander was elected chair of committee for next year. Big West's Dennis Farrell will chair in '13

how would a new RPI formula be more fair for cold weather teams unless it takes temperature into consideration?
Posted on 7/27/11 at 1:20 pm to bayourant
And yet the Northern teams will continue to complain every year.

Because southern teams are going to have more home games and are therefore more likely to have more home losses.

From Kendall Rogers
quote:
The instant replay at the #NCAACWS only would be used to determine if a HR is fair/foul, a ground rule double/HR, or spectactor interference
quote:
The biggest part of #NCAA release? The committee proposed RPI changes for 2013. No more RPI bonuses, road wins would go from 1.0 to 1.3.
quote:
Home wins would go to 0.7 from 1.0 in calculation, while home losses would go to 1.3 and road losses would be 0.7. Huge for northern schools
quote:
Just spoke to #Louisville coach Dan McDonnell. Said he is all about the new RPI changes and things equal. Said he loves potential change
quote:
McDonnell also said that perhaps this is something that will keep "some" programs from starting the season with 22 games at home.
quote:
Just spoke to #Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan. Said if the RPI changes help northern schools and fairness, he's all for it. #SEC
quote:
O'Sullivan said he's more worried about finishing in top four of #SEC and not RPI. Also doesn't seem to like the idea of no bonus points.

FWIW, he didn't mention what I think is an even bigger change they are making to the RPI. And that is that there will no longer be bonuses given for beating top 25, top 50 RPI teams.

So beating a team with a 200+ rpi will be given equal value as beating a team with a top 5 rpi? ......if this is the case that's pretty flawed. To me SOS should always play a huge role cause a good record against top competition is a much greater indication of the type of team u are than a great record against weaker teams. Each team could very well be equal but there is no way to know for side w/o playing top competition.

Nice shot at LSU...although I agree that LSU needs to step away from the Box a little more in the OOC schedule, even if its just one series.

Damn, thats shitty, it needs to be factored

It will still be a factor in the formula, you just won't get an extra bonus added on the base RPI number.

Any talk of changing the bats back?

We could be so lucky!

While this make complete and utter baseball sense the almighty dollar makes the world go round......and that my friend would be a completely stupid financial move....unless we play UT, aTm, and TCU in Houston as the road team but get to keep 75% of the gate (or something like that).

This quote by O'Sullivan is key......with these changes.....LSU should take note.

frick this. They already changed when schools were allowed to start playing because it was too cold for some teams to play, pussies. Now, they are changing a component of an actual ranking system because these schools still choose not to play at home despite starting later in the spring. You don't see the NFL giving the Steelers or Packers or Patriots help because they play in colder weather. And neither the NCAA nor the NHL has made any attempt to change their rules so that teams south of Chicago can compete in hockey. What's next? If the temp outside at game time is over 90°, the home team must use wooden bats?

Why does this matter? The RPI is useless.
