I was in Alabama last week and came across this place called Guthrie's. Everything about this place is Raising Cane's. The same "secret" sauce and same flavored chicken strips. Even the menue was worded the same. When I mentioned that this place very closely resembles a place called Raising Cane’s, the owner said, “yes it does, because Todd used to work for me”.

I can’t find much on the internet to back this story up, but Guthrie’s claims to have been around for like 50 years or something. Anyone come across this? Is Cane's a rip off?

Yes, Guthrie's has been there a while. I didn't know about the Cane's owner ever working there, but I always thought Cane's was a direct ripoff of Guthrie's.

Canes got the idea.from Guthries. So did Zaxbys. Guthries is the original. I always thought Guthries made a mistake not opening other locations aroound the South

I think Bailey's in B.R. was there before Cane's too. I could be wrong. Their toast wasn't as good, but other than that same exact shite.

I think they started at FSU...same kind of story that Cane's has.....Cane's definitely copied!

Hell, I remember when Bailey's was the big chicken finger joint in BR. They were pretty similar as well.

funny thing that Todd Graves derived his idea from Guthrie's. Thats a fact. Guthrie's has been opened before Raising Canes. I believe one of the first ones was opened in Tallahassee. we have a few up here in Hoover and Vestavia Hills

Similar thing happened to me when I went to Guthrie's in Picayune. I mentioned this place was just like Cane's, and they said that Cane's was just like them actually. Didn't say anything about the owner of Canes ever working there but seems like they were definitely around beforehand.
