I took some time to think about this and here it is. This is my list.

1. 2005 USC- Defense was inconsistent but I don't think there's ever been a more complete offense in the history of college football. They could move the ball running or passing the ball against anybody. Offense was completely unstoppable.

2. 2002 Miami- 2002 Miami was a tier below their 2001 team but they were tremendously talented. Coker got badly outcoached by Tressel in the national championship game.

3. 2003 Oklahoma- As good as they were in 2003, Oklahoma was still only the third best team in CFB that year. The top three teams that year: LSU, USC and Oklahoma were all tremendous.

4. 2008 Oklahoma- Highest scoring offense of all-time in large part due to being in a conference with lax defensive standards but it's hard to deny their talent. They had three future top 5 picks along with Gresham, Iglesias, Ryan Broyles, Phil Loadholt, DeMarco Murray, etc... Just a stacked football team. 2008 was another year with a lot of great football teams at the top.

5. 2000 Florida State- A very good football team. Came back from a early 17-0 deficit against a stacked Miami team to take the lead before blowing it late. Actually would have won the game comfortably if they had a good field goal kicker and hadn't kept turning the ball over in the red zone. Laid an egg in the national title game against Oklahoma after Mark Richt took the UGA head coaching job.

6. 2004 Oklahoma- I was honestly more impressed with Oklahoma than I was with Auburn coming into the national championship game. Was very unimpressed with Auburn especially after seeing them play Alabama. '04 Oklahoma probably would have held their own against a lot of national championship teams but unfortunately they were against a juggernaut USC team who demolished them.

7. 2010 Oregon- Conference was weak but they did crush a top 5 Stanford team by 3 TDs. Hard to judge how good this team really was due to the lack of competition.

8. 2006 Ohio State- Ran into a Florida buzzsaw in the national championship game but the Big 10 was undeniably overrated that year. Some people believed Michigan should have been the team playing Ohio State for the national title but USC waxed Michigan in similar fashion. Florida, USC and LSU were the three best teams in CFB that year.

9. 2009 Texas- Were very good defensively but the offense relied way too heavily on Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley and it ended up finally catching up to them in the national championship game.

10. 1998 Florida State- I have no idea how this Florida State team got to play for the national title. I remember seeing them play N.C. State live and they got absolutely beat down and this was with Chris Weinke at QB. Ohio State should have been playing Tennessee for the national title and would have given them a much more competitive game than Florida State did.

11. 1999 Virginia Tech- Cam Newton is a great player but I don't know if there's ever been a football player who meant more to their team than Michael Vick meant to Virginia Tech that year. Almost single-handedly took down Florida State in the national championship game by himself.

12. 2001 Nebraska- Watching Nebraska play Miami that year was like watching lambs being led to the slaughter. Would have lost by 50+ points if Coker hadn't mercifully put his foot off the gas pedal.

13. 2007 Ohio State- 2007 was just an awful year for CFB in general and that Ohio State team playing for the national championship was a much bigger embarrassment than a 2-loss LSU team being crowned national champions.

Oregon is a bit too high, but a good list nonetheless.

You won the national title by default. In 2007 it wasn't about who wanted the national title the most rather more like who wanted it the least. So many teams screwed the pooch in the final two weeks of the season.

1. 2005 USC - Makes you wonder how good Texas REALLY was since USC was touted as the best all-time prior to this game.

2. 2002 Miami - they seemed surprised by Ohio State's defensive speed. Yep, the Big Ten had speed once. An upset like this seems unthinkable now...

3. 2004 Oklahoma - higher than '03 OU because they didn't lay an egg against K-State...

4. 2003 Oklahoma - one of the best all-time, late-season collapse is still eerie.

5. 2009 Texas - May not be on this list if the injury didn't occur...

6. 2006 Ohio State - great team who just got trashed in BCSNCG. There was no way they could prepare for what UF did to them.

7. 2008 Oklahoma - I think their gaudy numbers were result of running up the score on weaker opponents. Still a good team...but I maintain they didn't even belong in the Big 12 title game.

8. 2000 Florida State - A missed field goal made the season interesting...the punch was simply not there in Miami.

9. 2001 Nebraska - these team was victim of playing a hungry Miami team...straight up. Colorado exposed them, and Miami took advantage.

10. 1998 Florida State - consistent team, solid team all-around, but they didn't exactly wow you.

11. 2010 Oregon - Maybe I am hating, or I am old school, but after seeing them get thoroughly dominated by an Auburn team that I thought was a one-man show...I realized the difference between the old USC teams and this Oregon team...the Ducks were soft.

12. 1999 Va Tech - a true one-man show.

13. 2007 Ohio State - getting hammered by a 2-loss LSU team showed this team was sorta in by default.

Michael Vick was as important to that team as anyone I can remember, but you are forgetting the rediculous defense VT had that year. Corey Moore won both the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Lombardi Award, was Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and was a unanimous First Team All American. Plus they got some nice RB play out of Stith and Kendrick.

I actually predicted VTech to play for the national championship that year before the season started, and caught a shite ton of flack for it from all my friends. I was laughing my arse off though come December. I did however, as much as it hurt me to do it, pick FSU to beat them in the championship. And I was unfortunately right.

If one man was ever robbed of a Heisman Trophy, it was Michael Vick that year.

I think if any Oklahoma team should be ahead of '03 Oklahoma, it's the '08 team. They were a lot more explosive offensively and much more talented. Also held Tim Tebow and the Gators offense in check for most of the game.

If they have 2004 USC defense - I'd take that team against anybody in CFB history. DE Shaun Cody, LB Matt Grootegoed, DT Mike Patterson, LB Lofa Tatupu.

SC's 2008 defense was even better. The whole nation missed out on a fantastic matchup. USC vs. UF would have been epic.

I think you are slighting both teams. If you considered Auburn a one-man show, then it was one heck of a show b/c they went through the SEC undefeated.

Maybe on the lines they were dominated, but they still only lost to an undefeated SEC team by a last second FG.

Yes, because winning on the last play of the game on a field goal is thoroughly dominating someone.

They had arguably the best player in the last 20 years and it still came down to a last second field goal.

ETA: just noticed that was supposed to be a quote to someone else. So this is responding to TexasTiger08 and his comment.

Much too high. That team lost the last game of the season 35-7

... cold and wet, on the road, against a 5-7 football team on it's third QB of the year... oh yeah, and it was sandwiched between a defeating a top 10 UGA team the SEC Championship Game.

To judge that team based on that one game is ridiculous.
