Crawfish seasoning on the outside vs. letting them soak to get spicy

Seems like people in LA east of Cecilia believe in soaking the crawfish in order to introduce the seasoning while people from West of Cecilia believe that dumping crawfish into an ice chest and pooring powdered seasoning on them magically defies the laws of physics and turns the solid seasoning into a gas or liquid which then seeps into the crawfish. What is your preferred method?

Boil for 9 minutes and soak for 12 minutes. Adding the Caiyan on top is just too much.
ETA: I prefer to use liquid crab boil.

anyone who doesn't soak is idiotic

I've seen it done in combo pretty well, but if there's no soak, no bueno.

Soaking. Can't stand crawfish with seasoning poured on the outside. All it does is make your lips miserable.

It's not done in addition to a seasoned boil - they boil in fresh water.

9 minutes is a long time for crawfish to be at a rolling boil

They do this in Houston, but apparently it has something to do with stupid health code laws and they can't put seasoning in the water.

I boil my potatoes and pour powdered red pepper all over the outside when done.

had to help host a crawfish boil where the head hoist insisted on the ice chest method. Worst/saltiest crawfish I have ever eaten

I feel that this is discussion of lifestyles here in LA.

People in freaking Austin dump seasoning on the outside and shake them up in an ice chest.
I went to a crawfish boil at a bar yesterday and the crawfish had a really good spice to them, but they seasoned the shite out of them once they came out of the water and they were so salty that they were inedible. They would have been good if they had just left them alone. I'm glad my buddy was working the door and gave me free tickets, I would have been pissed if I had paid for that garbage only to throw it away.

Been doing it this way for a long time and never had any problems.

I cant stand people that do this.
Drop Ice in the pot once the water comes to the boil and the crawfish are cooked (test out numerous times to achieve easy peel and satisfy urge) and that allows seasoning to get "shocked" into them.
Cant explain it but maybe Stephen Hawkins can with his cool chair.
