I am pretty sure that the state of Maryland churns out more talent than Connecticut.
def. true but out of state recruiting is a common practice.

Baltimore Sun
Pretty good article about it key is where it says Edsell wants the job. That in my mind makes it more solid. He has done something that other candidates for job hasnt, been HC and went to BCS Game.

Conn. can get guys from the north east which is a pretty good area.
I'd rather the MD/VA/DC area.
eta: not to mention he's closer to the areas he hits in the south for recruiting, and can sell kids on their folks being able to see them play in the ACC as opposed to up in the Big East.

Maryland is known as a basketball school so I find this hard to believe.
UConn's more hoops than Maryland is. Maryland just fired a successful (for them at least) head coach, and their big booster makes his money primarily off football apparel. seems they want a better football product, and are willing to spend to get it.

UConn brought, what? 4K fans to the Fiesta Bowl last night?
I'm guessing Edsall knows that UConn just doesn't care about football. Neither does it's fans.

I definitely wouldn't but that's jmho.

true but they've had more success with football lately.

Penn., NJ, NY, and conn. are all great areas for recruiting.

that NY/NJ/CT tristate area is just that good to you, huh Adam?

yeah. It's less competition in terms of recruiting.

new york and new jersey? conn?
Pennsylvania has some talent, but it's dominated by big programs (PSU, OSU) and Pitt. Penn can't support 4 BCS programs
Conn/NY produce shite
NJ has some talent, but most elite talent leaves for elite schools

Whats puzzling is that he turned Miami down

agreed. But some of the more talented 3 star guys can be easily overlooked.

there are exceptions. NY has had some great players come every now and then.

agreed. But it kind of seems like NJ is a state that's under recruited.
for instance, unless you play at an elite school (Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic) you can be overlooked. (example. Pitt RB Dion Lewis, or a guy I played against ended up going to Illinois instead of say penn. st.)
I do think Maryland has a chance to get more talent but they just have way too much competition.

Nah, there's a lot of competition. A lot of players want to go out of state, and schools like Notre Dame, Pitt and Penn State are all active in recruiting here.

I disagree. NJ / NY / CA are all still open to Edsall, but now, at Maryland, he has access to MD / PA / VA.
For what it's worth, Maryland has had some freakishly athletic players come through the past 4-5 years... if Edsall can just keep getting those guys and do a better job in developing them, that program might go from 'solid' to 'strong.'

Yeah kind of curious to see his contract.

Maryland is the better job. There might be more fans that travel for the women's basketball team then fans that traveled for the Fiesta Bowl.

Think about the TCU to the Big East move...TCU has now become the football giant in the BE as none of the other BE teams can run with TCU right now. Connecticut will be playing behind TCU, probably as long as Gary Patterson is there.
