What was your first "fine" dining experience and what memories..

did you have about it?
My first one was when I was a 17 years old and a girl from school invited me to a company Christmas dinner at Lafittes Landing near Donaldsonville. She was an intern for a law firm at the time and she just needed someone to go as a date. This was my first time putting on a coat and tie.
I can't remember what I ate, but I still remember being amazed at how good the food was and was pretty impressed with how much attention the servers gave us. I had never seen waiters walk around with crumb scrapers and I had never sat at a table where people ordered bottles of wine.
It was a long ways from the trips to Golden Corral and ChiChis that my family used as restaurant options way back then.

I remember getting dressed up as a kid to go to Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Can't remember how old I was (under 10) or the occasion.

Six or seven with my grandmother going to Galatoire's. Her driver took us in her big Fleetwood Caddy and waited parked outside. I was dressed in a blue blazer, green and blue rep tie and grey wool pants. I remember shrimp remoulade being the best thing ever. Thank you Ma Mere for forging my food journey. And thanks for homemade crepes with orange zest and vanilla sugar for breakfast everytime I spent the night.
My grandmother was an extra-ordinary woman and I still miss her every day.

Vrazel's in Gulfport before THE hurricane. Not K, but C (Camille).
Mom and Dad are busy hectoring me about what napkin / glass / plate / fork / knife / attitude to use to attack a whole flounder. WTF does a 10-ish kid know about that stuff -- I'm just hungry.
Waiter takes pity on me and shows me basically how to eat the thing -- he describes it, debones it, and takes satisfaction when I realize that "whoa, despite all the yelling this here fine-food tastes pretty good".
God bless that guy.

Masson's on Pontchartrain Blvd, my hot date's parents took us out for her 16th birthday, I had the Oyster & Shrimp Robert. I've been married to that hot date for over 40 years, she swears I've never forgotten a meal, or missed one either.

I have no doubt that is true.

Galatoire's. I don't remember my age. I do remember the trout almondine with lump crabmeat was a life changing experience.

Mine was a prom date with a girl who was totally out of my league but she didn't know it, (In other words, paradise.)
We went to Commander's Palace and I was a fearless orderer. Had Escargot and my first taste of Turtle Soup. Not sure what else, but it was a great experience.

Dude, you've got to save my arse here. You don't remember the old Lucky Pierre's and their ladies back in the day? I was a young pup but I was fascinated that such places existed in real life.

Nope, they were real. Of course . . . now you've got me a little worried. I mean . . . I didn't pull one out of there anymore than I did blow with the waitresses at 4141, but still . . . it's a little unnerving.

Mike and Tonys, Little Italy, Giamancos, and Don's, and I really can't remember which one was first. They all kind of muddle together as I get older.
Little Italy gets the nod. Best Spaghetti in town at the time, yes, even better than Giamancos, which at one point was pretty good. Loved those eclairs at Giamancos though.
