Proven himself? I am not impressed by feats of strength. Dan Hawkins proved himself at Boise St, too.
Great comparison, Dan Hawkins proved himself as a headcoach at Boise St. and nowhere else.
Trent Johnson proved himself at Nevada, Stanford, and then LSU in his first season.
He's taken 3 different teams from 3 different conferences to the NCAA tourney, guess he just got lucky.

Not to mention he won the conference at Nevada, at LSU, and finished 2nd at Stanford

His first season at LSU proved very little about him. It showed that he could win with the premium talent that Brady left for him. As for Nevada and Stanford, he was pretty successful there, but it's not like he lit the world on fire at those school.
I'm not saying we should fire the guy now, but people who say the program is going in the right direction are drinking the kool-aid. Nothing about last year or the first two games of this year makes me think this program is going in the right direction. I hope he turns it around. I think he's capable. But he has proven NOTHING at LSU.

he proved to me he could WIN with the same players brady couldn't win with

Think about that again, he won with what Brady couldn't

Nope, just multiple NCAA tourney appearances, nothing to write home about? What were you expecting, final fours every year?

How is it drinking the kool-aid if you see what he is bringing in and understand that sometimes it takes kids a little while to develop and mature?

Tasmin Mitchell was injured enough of the 2007-2008 season to qualify for a redshirt, so your argument is kind of flimsy.
The program he took over was in infinitely better shape than the one that Brady inherited, so don't even try to float that argument.

If you really think Brady was a good coach, then you are an absolute idiot. I know a few former players who would tell you something about their "practices." They were worthless. We got lucky on 225 talent ( ). TJ is finally putting this program in the right direction. He's doing a great job recruiting and getting the Brady debacle behind us

Let's see how the Freshmen and Soph's progress.
No, I didn't expect us to lose last night.
But, it is what it is. If White, Turner and Dotson has off games this team has little chance of winning short of Monster games from some others.
Right now what I see is young players learning to play at a higher level, expecially on the defensive end.
Offensively, this team is still limited. We have very little presence down low even with White. But, let's remember the only BBall he's played in the last year is against G.Green and Storm. He'll round into shape and should turn out to be a 8-10 pts 6-8 Reb's kind of player.
Storm is still coming back from injury.
Let's not forget that Harris is injured. If he comes back full strength that will help alot.
Once Stringer gets acclimated he's going to be really good. As will Turner and Derenbecker.
NIT is a resonable goal for this year.

Everyone else was healthy though, and Johnson didn't have Randolph and Brady did, so almost evens out

I didn't try to compare those 2 things

no shite....756 is an idiot....it amazes me the basketball fans that come out of nowhere after we lose, but normal threads go 2-3 pages with the same 10 or so people talking back and forth...fricking ridiculous..
You noticed that too. The rational Tiger fans were posting that Nicholls had a good team the past few days. Wasn't shocked by the loss at all. They very nearly won at Houston which is considered a much better team than LSU at present. Trent will get these guys going soon enough. Hopefully tomorrow night.

I already mentioned Tas.

You're putting words in my mouth. He went to the tourney ONCE at Nevada, when Fazekas was out of his mind. At Stanford, they were better BEFORE he got there. Go look it up. They were 30-2 and went to the second round the year before he got there and 18-13 losing in the first round his first year.

Because it is all an assumption. The fact is we sucked last year and are starting this year the same way. I guess your crystal ball is an unfair advantage.

Congrats. I was also very good friends with a star player under Brady and he said your unsubstantiated rumors are worthless. Please read my previous posts debunking the 225 talent argument. I didn't even include the 504, 985, or 337 talents.
Keep talking about the "right direction" while we lose to our little brothers NOW.

It's unacceptable for LSU, with all their resources, to lose to a Southland conference team. If Nicholls has a great year it may not look so bad in the end but it's a pathetic way to start the season.

That's just dumb. SEC titles aren't handed out at random.

Okay, maybe "nothing" was hyperbole. I'll admit that, but he didn't recruit the best players on that team. We collapsed the season before, and there were a lot of issues causing it. To think that 2007-2008 was not an anomaly to an extent is naive.
As for Brady, I agreed with his firing and the timing of it. The guys that act like he was a terrible coach are schmucks, though. Like you said, SEC titles aren't handed out. Neither are E8 and FF appearances. It just seems like people are totally incapable of objectively viewing Brady's tenure.

brady did some good things while he was here....there's no arguing that....most of our quality runs were due to the efforts of 1 and done type guys like Tyrus and Stromile.....after they left, we would fall back into poor/mediocre seasons for a couple years before we signed another 1 and done.....Trent is recruiting high character/4-year type program players.....HIS guys, being stringer, derenbecker, turner, have played a whole TWO college games at this point....he's also got one of the top forwards in the country coming in next year in O'Bryant....give the man more than a couple games before you write off the season....
the thing I like most about Trent is he holds himself accountable for everything....he shoulders the blame for losses and he says it is his job to put people's asses in the seats...he tells it like it is which is something brady never really did in his tenure here....

Seriously man? You gonna come here with that? Half of that list could not be considered "stud".
Btw, you never responded to the fact that TJ recently signed arguably the TOP forward in the country. Right direction? Our best players are freshman....right direction?????

Yea, it only proved that he could take the same exact team that lost their arse the year before and win the SEC Championship. Nice job man
