2 questions:
Why is Gameday going to this shite?

Is this really safe for the players?

Nah. They hired an artist to paint "Allstate" on the leaves.

I'm not going to lie, it looks cool to me. But some guy's going to die going over the middle to catch a pass.

Also, it'd be funny if some kicker put the ball in the street.

I guess event organizers at Wrigley were smarter 70 years ago.

Edit: Are they gonna have room for the bands? Doesn't Wrigley hold about 34K?

I don't know if it still has the record, but for a long time Wrigley had hosted more playoff football games than any other stadium.

I guess they wanted to get the stadium some post season experience, since the Cubs couldnt do it themselves.

Exactly what I was thinking last night. The on field logistics are terrible. Someone is gonna Bump Bailey themselves in the back of that end zone.

no, there is a reason they stopped playing FB there and its not the capacity. also the goal post used to be at the goal line. I bet they haven't played a pro or D 1 game there since moving them to the back of the end zone.

December 1970 was the last time any football game was played there. Damn, 40 years.

from the Uni Watch comments

quote:

During the Bears years at Wrigley, the field ran from the left field wall to the first base dugout. For Saturday’s game, the field runs from the right field wall to the third base dugout. There is slightly less room to work with at Wrigley these days due to renovations, but it wasn’t like there was too much extra room for the Bears. They had no extra padding or anything, though.

and here's a pic of the South Endzone

some of the arena league venues have end zones like that... orlando was the most notorious, but so did austin and las vegas

Like all those unprotected outfielders running full speed to catch a ball?

I think it's unsafer in baseball than football.

WRs will have pads, helmets, and the wall appears to have pads.

Outfielders have a hat and a brick wall.

Well in baseball you can control your own body to an extent even when you are going after a ball with reckless abandonment, but in football you may have someone behind you going after the same ball and add a little bit of force and pushing you through those bricks.
