The OT ripped you a new one? Why am I not surprised? Like a bunch of rabid wolves, the OT is

Honestly IDK. I just let my body tell me when I'm pushing too hard. Start feeling the heart beat in my ears and/or get dizzy or feel like I'm gonna hurl.. time to get my hr under control, walk briskly on the treadmill for 2-3 minutes. It happens almost every work out, I keep my HR at about 160-180. IMO if you're not getting to a point where you feel like puking, you didn't do it right. Just listen to your body. You'll be able to push harder than you think.

I check my pulse rate after I workout. Since I started gradual( I'm old 40ish) I wasn't too concerned with it until about several mos in. Academy sporting goods has several relative cheap models and they all should work about the same. But like hulk said as you workout you'll get a feel for it.

After my PHANTOM gain yesterday I decided to cadfast it up for the weigh-in today.

I did drop from 164.2 to 162.5.

I might continue on. Yesterday really wasn't too bad. I got my new 32" monitor so I was distracted last night playing around with it.

only saving grace is the spring reshaping program has begun. Exercise Day 3 and feel great because I'm at least 15# below the noraml starting point and its still lent. also fully recovered from stinger and plantar fasciitis.

Myth, 32"? is bigger really better?

Thanks and hello to everybody else here. I'll download Couch to 5K & MyFitnessPal today. I have fairly strong legs and am in decent health (besides being borderline morbidly obese :lol) so I'm confident I can run a 5k in reasonable amount of time. I figured I needed to turn things around before I was pushing 300.

Congrats on making adecision to do something positive about your health. you know what it is to be in shape and you can get there again. As for myself I have been working out on a schwinn air-dyne bike, and some circuit traing(Spartacus). The air-dyne works upper and lower body and I started out at 20 min 3x a week, I now do 5 days a week and low carb diet. About 2 yrs ago I started to workout and jumped into it too fast and my knee started killing me after 1 week and stayed that way for almost 3 mos, so ease your way into it.This time around I started much slower and lets face it, we're all getting older and getting hurt can be very frustrating. I've heard alot of good things about the couch to 5k, Good luck.lots of good info/posters on this board.

welcome aboard. you're in for it now. the accountability on this board is pretty good. It's kind of embarrassing to cheat and screw up and have to come let people know. Good luck to you.

Thanks. I picked a pretty good time to start. My schedule is clear for awhile. I have a group of people that I dine out regularly with and that's what's been killing me. We do have an outing to Chicago on the 25th but other than that I'm going to cut way down on the dining out.

Yep. Hell, I'm only 23, but I've done something to my knees. I don't know what, but it feels like runner's knee (even though I don't run). I need to see a doc about it. I've been taking the lower body exercises light because of it. I hate it because I don't feel like I am getting a good workout in, but I've always had bad knees so I'm concerned and looking out for my health. I just push extra hard on my upper body workouts while the knees heal up

My wife runs a lot and she is a big believer in fish oil pills. She says that ever since she started taking them the pain in her knees have went away.

She says that it lubs the joints.

I've had friends told to not do squats by surgeons, especially heavy weight, so watch out for those. Biking is the best overall for your knees or stick with leg ext/curls. I know your only 23 and feel as though you have all the strength in the world, but take care of your body/joints now. I'm in my 40's and feel much much better than I used to overall, joint, muscle and cardio function. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the advice. I already take fish oil, though.

I take:
Morning:
Fish oil
Multivitamin (with energy & metabolism support)
Thermogenic

Pre-workout
MusclePharm Assault

Post-Workout:
MusclePharm Combat Powder (low carb protein shake)
and I just ordered BCAA+G, which should further help my joints and muscles repair quicker.

I was doing circuits every other day that included squats, maybe that was too often. Or maybe I did a set with bad form.. idk. All I know is both of my knees hurt when bent for a while or if I'm sitting down or getting up from sitting down, or going up stairs. Walking around is no bother at all.

actually with low carbs constipation will be the main stomach issue.

No try, only do on the refined carbs.

Good luck!
