Did Tulane draw fans when they played there and what was the split when LSU played there was it ever 50/50?

I wasn't born when Tulane Stadium was still used, but I imagine they had better attendance numbers. Considering those teams were probably better than the recent ones and Stadium location was a lot better for students.

that was when:

people could actually live in the city before the white flight

tulane was in the SEC. they may not have been competitive, but they were certainly on vanderbilt's level and vanderbilt fills their stadium

there were no talking heads or SFP back then to laugh at people who supported anyone other than LSU

They were out of the SEC for atleast eight seasons and were playing as an independent at Tulane Stadium. The 1973 game when Tulane finally beat LSU after twenty-five years held the attendance record for a game played in the south until Neyland was expanded.

In the early to late 70's Tulane fans outnumbered LSU fans.

I wish I would have had the chance to catch a game there.

We were averaging in the 40K area during the late 70s and early 80s, and that was at the Dome. Winning combined with good scheduling does that.

I heard the place was a dump when you get right down to it. Stands were in shitty shape. They had a fire in its later days.

That said, I miss the old traditional places like the Orange Bowl, "Sugar Bowl", etc. I guess I better hit up the Rose Bowl before it meets its demise.

but is that using current Tulane math for attendance?
announced crowds in the 20ks, when maybe 4k there?

why is it retarded? white people who could have been tulane casual fans simply due to proximity moved to metairie and further and became LSU casual fans instead

No, the Plaza and Loge were almost always just about filled up.

It's retarded on so many levels, not the least of them being the racist aspect of it.

what's racist about it? if white people hadn't moved out of the city en masse, there'd be more tulane fans.

but they did

I was there. I've told this story before, but I may as well repeat it.

My dad took my sister and I to a game back maybe in 1968 or that time frame. That would have made me four. We sat up in the cheap seats, which were pretty much empty. My dad bought my sister and I green pom poms and told us that Tulane mascot was "the Green Weenies." So my sister and I, not knowing any better, ran up and down the aisle yelling, "Go, Green Weenies!"

My dad was a big time LSU fan as well as a quite accomplished practical joker.

I went to several games in the 71, 72, 73 and 74 seasons.. the only ones that filled up the place were LSU games other than that it was more than HALF empty...

prior to the Saints coming they had more fans there - but this changed significantly after 1967.

anyone that says they had big crowds is lying. period.
