How can Jerry Seinfeld be so unfunny now?

He hasn't made me laugh once since he ended Seinfeld even though he keeps trying. I was watching Cedric the Entertainer's new show Urban Circus on TBS last night and Jerry Seinfeld made a pretty shitty guest appearance. They were doing Cedric's stupid bit where he pretends like he's driving a car and people think it's funny that he's all slouched back because people are stupid and laugh at ridiculous things, then Seinfeld "takes the wheel" and tries to essentially do the same bit. He was even less funny at it than Cedric.

Cause he doesn't try anymore. He's still funny, but you wouldn't know it unless you watch his latenight interviews.

CYE

One of the many series I probably need to check out. Maybe if I ever get NetFlix and that's on instant download.

Me too. He's also marginally funny on the marriage ref. I just like listening to him talk.

i also think the show seinfeld and it's ability to be funny hinged more on david and the writing and the acting jobs by richards, dreyfuss, and alexander than seinfeld.

not that seinfeld didn't have anything to do with it but with that team he was bound to win a few rings. he's like phil jackson.

Not sure I really agree. Seinfeld and David are an AWESOME combo. There scenes together this past season of CYE were hysterical and it wasn't scripted (For those that don't know there is no script for CYE just general ideas). I lost it when Larry and Jerry were arguing last season about who Richard Lewis would sit next to at the restaurant.

I saw his standup a few months ago and he killed it fwiw

I went in with lower expectations and he went above and beyond, he is the king of observational humor.

Jerry was playing the "straight man" on Seinfeld. While he had his quirks he was mainly their to react to Elaine, George and Kramer. As someone else mentioned, his standup act is more observational humor and that doesn't fit well in a sit-com concept.

Only the most popular sitcom in history... even if had a supporting cast, he was still the main guy.
