Is there any chance the SEC stays with 12?

Or is expansion a foregone conclusion?

With all the talk of how Slive and company have entered talks with several schools, I see expansion as a foregone conclusion myself.

its a foregone conclusion, to much movement for the SEC to not get involved

expansion will happen, I think the question is is it sooner or later.

Maybe they wait a year and see where things fall and just settle for raiding the ACC in a year rather than make a last ditch attempt to grab aTm or some other Big 12

I too think it's a foregone conclusion that the SEC will expand.

1. yes

2. According to reports OU is petitioning the SEC.

Therefore while expansion not 100%, its LIKELY when the #2 team in the b12 is about to achieve "escape velocity".

I could see Slive fricking this up......waiting too long and then having to pick up somebody underwhelming like Clemson and FSU.

Written in stone... The SEC will expand... With who is the better question right now. Seems fillers are being sent out all over to make sure the SEC stays on top.

There's a minor chance, depending on who is actually willing to join the SEC.

In theory, most schools would jump at the chance since the SEC is currently the biggest conference, money-wise, next to the Big Ten.

In practice, they may miss out for whatever reason on schools they really want.

If Slive can't get schools he really wants for the SEC, I'd rather stand pat than take candidates seen as subpar. That shouldn't be a problem, though, with the Big 12 imploding and the ACC ripe for a raid.

really? where are the ACC schools going to go?

If the option is now or nothing doesn't that basically mean it's a Big 12 option or nothing?

I would not mind having FSU. Not like they have always sucked ya know and in the right conference I could see them doing well.

I think it will happen now. Strike while the iron is hot if you will.

OU would be a great addition to the SEC in my opinion. I don't see any downside to it at all.

Ivan Maisel just said he thinks the SEC will maintain status quo for now.

No way the SEC does not expand if these other conferences expand. Slive is all about the money just as much as the next guy. Correct me if I am wrong but I think he is a little use to getting that extra money the last few years with the TV contracts and bowl payouts as well as how many National Champs have been SEC teams the past decade?

I wonder how the media will spin these new conferences if we don't expand.
If we sit at twelve, and they have 14 or 16, are they suddenly building them up as the toughest conference and we lose this angle to the championship.
Suddenly a 1 loss team from the Big 10 or Pac 10, or whatever we call them now, is getting in over SEC schools.

if the Big 10 stays at 12 and the Pac-10 keeps to 12 or less, I don't think the SEC will expand.

If we start seeing the "super conferences" as big as 16, I think then the SEC will expand.
