Report from Grand Isle 6/10
Posted on 6/10/10 at 9:46 am

Just talked to a buddy of mine who's using his boat for clean up. He said they are on the East end of the Island, in the pass, and haven't seen any oil in 3 days. I told him he needs to follow the media because they can sure find it. He said they had a crew on the beach the other day who found a little tar ball. Said they put their cameras down right on top of it. He said Grand Isle is making more money now than they ever have. All motels have no vacancy signs. Every marina is full. You can't hardly get into a restaurant. Said right now the birds are diving, shrimp and trout are jumping and the dophins are playing.

Trout are probably getting nice and fat with no fishing pressure.....hopefully we will get a chance to tie into a few of those hogs before the end of summer.

Get your head out of the sand you idiot, dont you know this is the end of the world. You need to wake up and realize that our days are numbered, we are all going to die and its because of the pelicans having oil on their wings

I don't know. You see the locals and marina owners on TV and they act like they don't know how they are going to survive.

The mayor of Orange Beach said his residents are starving to death over there.

It's kind of like cotton farmers in Caddo Parish saying the Spring drought it killing them while they are sitting on $70 million worth of Haynesville Shale lease payments.

I don't know. You see the locals and marina owners on TV and they act like they don't know how they are going to survive
and they complain that they make more than what they are gonna get repaid for, but if theyd pay taxes on it all then they wouldnt have this problem
just sayin, responsiblity is crutial

Was at my stepson’s baseball practice last night. One of the dads is a fishing guide in Venice. He said one of his employees ran to Grand Isle and through Barataria Bay. Said a week or so ago there wasn’t much oil that they could find. But yesterday he said it looked horrible in there. The whole eastern side near Wilkinson Bay and Bay Baptiste and related marshes were horrible. Said it looked like solid sludge. Not first hand info, but have no reason to think the guy would lie about this.
Kind of made me sick because we have a camp a little north of there on Bayou Norman. We mostly fish a little further north in Lafitte, but Barataria Bay is always our summer spot for specks.
I know Memorial Day they had the opening from Barataria Bay to Mud Lake boomed off with yellow booms. Hope they stop it there.

So does this mean that they've cleaned it up OR that it wasn't there? This can get confusing. I'm like the others ... many business owners were saying that they don't know how they'll make it ... business is down, etc.

REalx all you guys, the oil definitley moves in waves and is not a steady stream. ANd where did anyone read that Grand Isle was ground zero?
The oil is everywhere! Over 20,000 barrels per day are going somewhere, let's just thank God it isn't Grande Isle. It's obvious it prefers to go less to the west and more towards the East.

He said a few days ago some oil came in the pass and they got a bunch of boats out there and cleaned it up. He said the people who own businesses such as marinas, motels, restaurants, etc. are doing well. There are so many clean up people and media, they have to have a place to stay, eat and buy things.

Forgot he mentioned something to that effect. Said they are noticing it moving in more on the slack tides than on strong tidal periods.
