Chuck, sorry if you took my post wrong, but I'm not meaning to trivialize it. Trust me, I'm pissed off. I've lost business because of it. I got pissed off today sitting at a traffic light because I saw the brown pelican on the license plate in front of me. I know guides that are hurting bad. I had to cancel a trip to Grand Isle earlier. It's just from watching the media last night and talking to him today were two different things. Listening to the media and marina owners last night you would've thought they didn't have a soul in their rooms and they hadn't sold a meal in a month, and GI was covered in three feet of oil.
gotcha. it's all good.

They just said on the news that the oil is now in Bayou Norman which is upper Lafitte and in front of my camp. FML!

I don't see how they could not catch it before it got way up there. As many choppers are flying over and as many boats are on standby it seems like they would've caught that. I sure hope that report is wrong.

Me too. It was on channel 6 by Jefferson Parish Councilman Tom Capella

Link? I have been getting e-mail updates from CCA and haven't seen that. Inside and outside?

Fox News was reporting this morning of oil at the state park. The reporter was wading out with a pair of shorts on. I thought the water was toxic and you couldn't get in it.

can you launch anywhere in grand isle currently?

Lodging has been really tough to find. Almost everything is book solid.
Took me 19 different places to find an opening a couple weeks ago and 17 places this past week.
Restuarants are busy. Guys selling shrimp, bait, and have boat launches are having it tough.

Is this from tourism or clean-up crews Mud?

From what I've heard it's clean up and media.

The vast majority has been cleanup crews.
Texas commission, Texas Work Force, Oil Mop, BP, etc.....
The cleanup crews I have encountered have been interesting to say the least. Look like and act like thugs. Talked to a few of them at the hotel and said prison work release for $12/hr. They were hired by BP.
Texas commission had BP tour a couple of their large lodging vessels but BP declined.
State management areas have been trying to get BP to open up the camps that have been closed because of budget cuts. But no dice. Various universities have trying to get BP to pay for opening up various marine labs and stations that were closed due to budget cuts. But nothing as of yet.

This may be a problem one night at Arties with the locals. They better watch their step.

Does anyone know if you can fish the back side of the island now from the shoreline?
Posted on 6/13/10 at 3:29 pm to Sal Minio
No.
My brother in law went to his camp at Pirates Cove Saturday just to check things out. No fishing from Grand Isle north south east or west.
He's thinking about trailering his boats back to Houma because fishing is going to be shut down awhile.

Thanks Tigeryat. Maybe a guide out of Lafitte is the only place left if I can find one. Lake Pont. guides seem impossible to get. Sold the boat many moons ago.

That's what the 2-hour crew in Tyvek on the beach in GI when BHO was down looked like. Scary. But I am sure they are all 40 hour trained.

They told me a couple hr course on safety they had to sit through.
Its a shame BP is lying and deceiving the american public like it is.
