The whole western side near Wilkinson Bay and Bay Baptiste and related marshes were horrible.

You mean the eastern side of Barataria Bay, right?

The western side would be Manilla, Hackberry Bay, Mud Lake, Little Lake, etc.

And if its in and around Wilkinson Bay............FML

speaking of businesses doing well, i know of a marina who is currently providing 400+ meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) to workers...im sure he doing well, but is the food enough to offset the money he is losing from fuel sales? guess that all depends on where the clean-up vessels are getting fuel.

Clean up vessels are getting their fuel from the marinas. They showed one of the marina owners on Anderson Cooper last night. They made it look like he was about to starve. They didn't mention all of his apartments were full and he was selling all the meals, ice fuel, etc. Much more than they would on a normal Wednesday in June.

This is the calm before the storm IMO. The oil is going somewhere. Its only a matter of time until the weather does not cooperate and the winds screw everybody.

The economic surplus they are feeling right now will be more than counterbalanced by the long term effects.

I guess there is always hope but I'm beginning to run out of it.

That's why I'm wondering which story to believe ... I saw what you saw ... I thought they're about to go under.

Eastern side is what i meant. He named those bays in particular. Again he wasn't there, but a guide that works for him. I can only hope its not as bad as he described to me yesterday. Made things sound pretty grim in that area

Everyone I know with a camp that wanted to rent it has done so at a very good rate. I think they're doing fine for now.

I know one of the families that has a marina on Grand Isle. The problem is not that their rooms are not full, or the boats are not buying gas, the problem is that BP has not payed the bill yet. These folks are used to getting payed at the end of the weekend and then restocking for the next weekend. Now they have no income and have to restock for the next weeks supply. In the oil field it usually takes atleast 90 days to get payed for an invoice.

Not for the stuff they are buying. Rent, food, fuel, ect. If it's true that BP hasn't paid, I bet if they wouldn't feed them or give them fuel, they'd show up with a check pretty quick.

so, the Island is alive and prospering from all the anglers out to catch fish? You mean it's not because of the enviromental clean-up labor? So, there really is no oil and the 50k+ barrells/day are just "POOF!" gone?

Someone should pass this wonderful news to the Perdido area and tell them it is all in their heads too.

No, as I said in the other post, it is from the clean up people and the media.

the marina's aren't doing as well as they would with normal summer business. The rooms are rented, but thats usually the case. The marina side is what's taking a beating. Granted, they do have the cleanup activity, but not the same volume as a normal summer would give them.

The biggest problem here is they make the bulk of their money during the summer. Had this happend during the winter, their income would have actually increased because of the cleanup activity.

Which rodeo. Heard they had a pretty good showing for the speckled trout even though no one fished.

But, life is good and people are wonderful on GI. Yea, benefit concerts will take the place of the Tarpon........keep trivializing it.

Chuck, sorry if you took my post wrong, but I'm not meaning to trivialize it. Trust me, I'm pissed off. I've lost business because of it. I got pissed off today sitting at a traffic light because I saw the brown pelican on the license plate in front of me. I know guides that are hurting bad. I had to cancel a trip to Grand Isle earlier. It's just from watching the media last night and talking to him today were two different things. Listening to the media and marina owners last night you would've thought they didn't have a soul in their rooms and they hadn't sold a meal in a month, and GI was covered in three feet of oil.
