Why Miles Would Be the Only Logical Choice for Michigan

I don't want Miles to leave. I think that there are solid reasons for what happened last year and I think that the offensive problems this year were unforseen. I think that Miles will corrrect them in the offseason, especially if Crowton is gone.

Having said that, Michigan took a chance on an up and comer in Rich Rod who was young and innovative. They've been burned. There will be a HUGE contingent of Michigan people who will want to get back to Michigan football, which is what Miles would represent. He has a sterling record, a BCS National Championship and a conference championship in the toughest conference in the land. He is a Michigan man through and through. He handles himself with class and dignity, cares about his players, has great relationships with the media, fans, and alumni, recruits like crazy, and wins 80% of his games in the SEC. After the fiasco that they are currently experiencing, there will be a desire for normalcy and a return to what is known. Miles is the only proven head coach who fits this bill.

I'm not saying that they go after him, and honestly, I hope that they don't. Having Miles fix the OC problem immediately puts us in line for a legitimate run at the national championship NEXT YEAR. Losing Miles sets us back, in my opinion. But, if Michigan gets rid of RR, I don't see any other coach that would meet their football and emotional needs as much as Miles would.

Fire away.

Michigan doesn't get rid of DickRod for the same reason OSU didn't get rid of Cooper in his early years. They don't want the reputation as a football factory I dont think. He gets another year.

He certainly wouldn't be the only logical choice.

Cooper had only 1 losing season, his first, while not spectacular until 93, he was winning, this will be what the 2nd losing season in 40+ years at scUM?

If you look at what Michigan has just been through and what the culture is like there, yeah, I think that only Miles would restore order and be the "safest" choice, which is what Michigan people would likely want at this point. Kelly was interviewed 2 years ago and was passed over. Apparently, he didn't fit with Michigan. What has changed? Harbaugh has a couple of good wins, but still has a losing record. He isn't ready and it is still too much of a gamble with him. Who else has the long-term, established, championship record of Miles? Who else fits Michigan better than Miles?

Cooper took 6 seasons to get to double digit wins, and he was getting beaten like a drum by Michigan. Sure he didn't post back to back losing seasons, but he wasn't a world beater either.

I really don't think they get rid of RichRod. The big change they make is they'll get a new AD (probably Lloyd) and RichRod's arse is on fire but he won't be gone.

when they were only playing 11 regular season games.

If RR was looking at 8-4, or even 7-5 there would be no talk of getting rid of him, but unless they pull off a miricle upset, they will 1-7 in the Big10+1, while the Big 10+1 is not near as bad as the ranter make it out to be, Michigan should not be 1-7 in conference, with a 3 point win over Indiana.

ETA: Holy crap, Indiana is the 2nd best team they beat, other wins are over Delaware St (not D1) ND and 2 directional Michigan Schools, but not the best of those.

This is IF RichRod is fired, of course. I have no idea if they will fire him or not, although reports are growing that that could happen.

If Rodriguez is not fired this year, I think that if Miles goes 11-2 this year and makes a run at the National Championship next year, and if RichRod stumbles again next year, Miles will definitely be in Michigan to finish out his career.

Wrong.

Rich's contract defines w/ cause as a major ncca violation. The lack of practice logs for '08 which Michigan's own internal audit confirmed does constitute a major violation according to ncaa rules.

This out will allow UM to fire RR w/ cause and pay no buyout.

I can't see how they do not seize the opportunity.

That said, one can't help but think they would go after Harbaugh first.

Considering that Mich doesn't have an AD right now, I'd imagine that Carr would definitely have a big say in who the next coach is. I highly doubt Carr would pick Miles over Harbough.

There's still a lot of bruised egos in Ann Arbor over Harbaugh's comment two years ago about Michigan routing football players into easy classes while he was there.

Carr may hate Les with a passion, but Les hasn't done anything perceived as tarnishing their cherished image of the Michigan program like Harbaugh did.

Rich Rod teams have never been known to be good on defense.

He's from Ohio, FWIW.

Then again, so is Bo, the original "Michigan man".

Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Carry on.
