I just moved to BR and got my bill today for over $300. They installed my cable/internet on Sept 1. I did not have internet until the 14th and had to go through this long ordeal on the phone to finally set it up. I then had to take off work today to wait for the cable man to come and work on the cable end of things since the majority of station would not come in. I then got the bill and instead of a one time installation charge they charged me $177 for several different installation charges. I just got off the phone with them and they were so rude and would not cut me a deal in any way. I had heard about how bad they were when I lived in TX but this is ridiculous. These people are the biggest crooks and I am so angry right now. Is there any competition to deal with these asses??? They did not disclose that will charge you a ton of money to set everything up. They just lie and say it will be a one time fee of $59. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated

Yep. I hate 'em. I plan on switching to AT&T Universe as soon as it is available in my area. You could check on that. The only other options are DirectTV and Dish Network.

Yeah last year. They tried to charge me a little extra to set up my cable and internet. I can do everything myself and did it correctly. I was internetless for a week or so until someone finally came out. Turns out the cox person put my modem number in wrong, but they still tried to charge me. Teh wizard had none of it and didn't fork over any extra dollars.

Don't try to "cut deals" with them. It's your way because you're right... assuming you're right.

You have a right to not be charged the monthly fees for the days you did not have service. What I mean is, if they didn't get all of your services working at the same time, you can have the fees prorated for only the days you did receive service. I've done that before...even for a service outage of just a few hours. I've called and received a four cent credit on my next bill!

Did I say I hate them??? I do.

Lafayette Utilities is offering fiber optic connection directly to the homes/business in the city limits (their existing utility coverage area) with bundled phone/tv/internet. I'm looking at getting rid of COX also. What is AT&T Universe?

U-Verse. It is the fastest residential/retail internet that you can get.

I may have the term wrong. See kfizz's post about "U-Verse." It's a TV/data service offered through AT&T. They announced last week that parts of BR are now wired for it. My area is not, yet.

What speeds? LUS is doing 50MBps residential / 100MBps business with default 100MBps between customers on the fiber network in town.

I got U-Verse and FIOS (Verizon) mixed up, my bad. FIOS is the fastest, I'm not sure what U-Verse is, but it isn't 50Mbps sounds like ridiculous overkill, not that I wouldn't welcome it.

Does anyone know what the Cox 'standard' internet speed is? I have that and it seems fast to me. But I don't download as much porn as you young guys do.....probably....

Around 10 MBps (1200kbytes/second). I hit the upper limit on it sometimes when I download torrents. It's really more than fast enough for anyone other than a pirate fiend.

Eatel, 18 MBPS download, 2 MBPS upload is $46 and some change per month.

Their "super premium" package allows up to 30 MBPS download (forgot the upload speed) for $99.99 per month.

No way I'll pay that.

Call back and ask to speak to the manager... Just keep saying "unacceptable." Be very long winded and don't let him/her interrupt. Eventually, they will just want to get off of the phone with you and reduce your charge.

You're welcome.

Network speeds are measured in bits, not bytes (Mb, not MB). So all of your numbers off by a factor of 8 roughly.

I know its wrong, I get them mixed up. This is not an overly technical discussion, so it's more or less irrelevant.

Ascension Parish - Eatel

Cox is just plain awful. Hopefully Eatel invades the Baton Rouge market soon for everyone else. Their customer service is #1.

I can't complain about Cox. I just moved about 2 months ago and switched my home phone over to Cox also. I'm trying to keep my expenses down and not home all that much, so I just have basic cable, slowest internet & min. phone service, but they didn't charge me any connection fees and its only about $59/month for everything. I hardly ever use the phone and never have any problems with the internet, even when the kids are home and 3 of us on wireless.

Also, got to talking to the cable guy while he was connecting things and ended up listing his house.
