re: Cancer, term life, & retirement

Coach, stay on top of it and beat it. I've had several friends that have beat melanoma. I lost my brother to it 20 years ago. He had a melanoma removed from his face years before and didn't follow up. He had a brain tumor that they traced back to the melanoma. Please follow up with your doctor, he didn't.

Dude, your son is in my prayers this morning. I know he must be a fine young man and I certainly hope things go well and he makes a full recovery!

Amitch, my oldest brother was diagnosed about 20 years ago. They removed a small portion of his colon. He didn't have to do radiation or chemo and is still going strong at 75. I'm glad they caught yours early and you are in my prayers!

So glad to hear an update on your wife and Molly! You and your family are in my prayers each day. Take good care of yourself and hope you feel better soon!
re: Update on my stomach issues-Gallbladder

Had gallstones right after my 1st daughter was born. I was 33 and had always been thin. I waited almost a year for them to start doing laparoscopic surgery in BR (1990). I had terrible attacks during that time. Surgery went very easy. I had some difficulties at first with fried foods but adjusted my diet and everything was fine.

Kantz, I've been reading this since the beginning. Your family has been in my prayers and continues to be. I've also got 2 daughters that have graduated from college and both married over the past year. I wish you all the best with Molly. Time will pass slowly now but boy does it fly later.
BTW, my mom was a twin born in 1914. She and her brother only weighed about 2 lbs each when they were born. She told me they were put in a shoe box by the fireplace. My uncle made it to 89 and my Mom was 90 when she passed.
Hope you and your wife have gotten some much needed rest and things have gone well through this night. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

Engineering dorm is for freshmen only. It is one of the newer dorms. My daughter was there her freshman year, which was great and then moved off campus with a couple of her friends. LSU has a great program. She and one of her suite mates, a ChemE are still good friends. Best of luck.

I have had a Volvo XC-90 since 2008. Absolutely love it, have 106,000 miles and no problems. My daughter has a 2015 XC-60 and they love it. It gets great gas mileage and has about the same seating room as mine except for the 3rd row seat and a little less cargo area. My better half is the service director of a large Honda dealership and they are incredibly reliable cars.
re: Where would be your ideal Houston neighborhood to live?
Posted by lsubandmom on 10/14/15 at 8:28 pm to RedRifle
Use the app for HAR. Houston Association of Realtors. It gives you access to their MLS and is very easy to use for properties for sale and rent. We lived in the museum district in a high rise and loved it.

That's what I figured. If it was at city hall must be someone upset at the city council.

Inglis is a very tiny town on the gulf coast. I don't think they even have a stoplight. I lived just south of Inglis in Crystal River many years ago. I can't imagine something like this happening there.

I read this each year Iona. Thanks for posting once again. I was in DC about 5 years ago and visited Arlington Cemetary on Christmas Day. You could see the Pentagon in the distance. I can't imagine how terrifying it was for everyone seeing this unfold in your own backyard.

The rice and pumpkin works. I've also put canned pumpkin in an ice cube tray and frozen it as treats when my beagle had an upset stomach.
re: Mass shooting at the Grand Theatre, Lafayette. Confirmed by KATC

I have that same feeling of " it happened to all of us". I lived in Lafayette for 13 years and have been in that theater many times with and without my kids. I have many close friends there and it just hits way too close to home.
re: Does homeownership make sense if you're single?

We rented a completely furnished high rise that included everything - cable, wifi, electric in Houston for 18 mo. I think the owner was in the hole about 500-600 per month. We've now semi-retired to Florida and we are doing the same thing in a large condo on the beach. We do own a house that we will eventually land in, but for now we are renting it out enjoying the flexibility that renting another place gives us.
Maybe consider a rental place where you like to vacation if you feel the need to invest in real estate. Any decision you make varies so much depending on your needs and your location.

re: Being Harassed by Real Estate Agents for Doing FSBO

I sold real estate in Lafayette up until about a year ago and most resales were at 6% and most new construction was at 5%. There are a few discount brokers and I would certainly help out clients on occasion depending on the circumstances.

I just sold mine FSBO and I am a realtor. I received many calls from other realtors also. They are just cold calling, but it is a shame that some get overly aggressive. I had a few also. Good luck with your home.

Inside the loop too. Wish it could have held off until July, we're moving to Florida to check out the sharks and rip tides.

Do you live on Oak Island. I lived there in the 70's when I was a newlywed. There wasn't a whole lot there back then.
