Outstanding movie. Normally, I don't like anything Ferrel does, but he was great in this movie. I only rented it because I've been to Bruges and wanted to see it on film. It's one of the favorite places I've been in Europe.

Ferrel should have received some Oscar love. His ability to switch back and forth from comedy to tragedy was amazing.

Great movie.

It is also cool that I have been to Bruges, Belgium and have seen the place where it was filmed.

I can try to search through my pictures from my Europe trip this summer to see if I can find the ones I took there.

Once I visited, it made perfect since why they chose Bruge as the city.

I has always wondered, "Where are all the people? Did they close off an entire city to film this?"

Well, the answer is--Bruge is the definition of a tourist center. The old money in the area/power wants to keep it that way (they refuse to have any type of attractions that would bring in a younger crowd or would make people want to live there). Therefore, the city is literally empty at 6 PM through the night. I noticed in the film there were quite a bit of night/dusk shots with no people and this would explain it.

So there is some background to the location. It is a nice city--but wayyy too touristy for my liking.

The cinematography was one of my favorite things about the movie...made me really want to visit Bruges

This is a restaurant on the square. I couldn't remember exactly which restaurant Ferrell is sitting at when he sees his friend jump to his death. I think I was able to narrow it down to two possibilities--so here is one of them.

I saw about 12 cities in Belgium alone and Bruge was easily the most touristy of them all--it wasn't even a competition.

I'm quoting what the tour guide told us as well--he was a professor at a local college.

I'm not saying there are not a few local spots, because there always are, but he gave us a lot of information on why Bruges is the way it is today.
