Question about Austin Nola?

Why do we take Leon Landry out when he is detrimental in the lineup (BA. 258 HR 9) but yet we put in Austin Nola ( BA. 239 HR 1) who is more of a detriment in the lineup, not to mention Landry is a better baserunner. i know we put Nola in for defensive purposes but the same could be said for Leon Landry, he is our best outfierlder. Opinions thoughts

because Mahtook is a better CF than Lemahieu is SS. And Nola has a higher ceiling than Landry.

but if he continues to struggle at the plate , do we switch back?

no, have you not seen the vast improvement of up the middle defense since the switch? Also, Nola is not as big a detriment as you think, he works the count as well as anyone else in the lineup and rarely makes first-pitch outs. There have already been a few instances where he has worked from 0-2 counts to make the pitcher throw 6 or 7 more pitches only to draw a walk or get it a hit.

How often does Nola K and walk? Leon rarely walks and Ks at a very high rate.
BA isn't everything when its comes to being a productive hitter.

Landry will get his chances the remainder of the year as spot starter and replacement. Nola is your SS for the next couple of years.
Landry will be back in CF next year with Mahtook moving over.
Same with Helenihi as with Landry. Hanover can hit .100 the rest of the season....he ain't leaving 3rd.

how many chances has Landry had to produce? How many for Nola? Your answer lies within those questions.

Nola is the future at SS but he really needs to start hitting when we get to the big games.

SS is a position where you can sacrifice defense for offense.
OF, not really. Esp when Mahtook is just as good of a CF, and faster than Leon and a better hitter.

Nola has not had near the opportunity to produce as Leon has.. I would venture to say that in our 13 losses Leon stuck out at the plate on our last AB in at min 3 of those with runners in scoring position. Thats BAD. Mahtook has been solid in CF too (excluding his falls yesterday but that may have been more weather related) You take Nola out of the lineup you dont gain anything (who would you put in?) But you gain a very solid SS by having him in. Landry had the option this year on being a very reliable leadoff hitter and instead he chose to be a swing for the fence hitter that has gotten him a lot of HRs and a lot of K's.

On top of that Landry isn't "far and away the best OF". He makes some good plays but he also makes some boneheaded ones.

while that is true, I think it also has alot to do with Schimpf defense while at 2nd

That's not saying much because Landry has sucked on the bases this year.

I'm not sure about this. While Schimpf did have a horrible game TN Saturday (2 errors charged and should have been charged with a 3rd IMO), he's been a solid second baseman. He only made 3 errors all of last year.

I think all in all the Ks have doomed Landry. Nothing good can happen if you don't put the ball in play.
You can give up offense 4 defense at SS to some extent but NOT in the OF.
