Because he was the one person on the roster that was possibly dumber than Mike Bell, who had to put an L on his left foot and R on his right foot for plays.

Brooks was a poor man's Mike Vick.

Great talent but did not have the mental capability to play QB

His attitude was the answer. He had all the physical tools to be an exceptional talent but you would never see him on the sidelines looking over the defensive schemes like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc., he would laugh with that goofy full-faced smile on his face like he was not concerned that he throw an interception. His attitude kind of reminds you of other Saints like Charles Grant and Will Smith, who after receiving the big dollar pay-day, decide to not play with intensity or heart. I think that is what bothers fans the most about professional athletes especially when they have potential but don't live up to their potential.

Brooks was a better than average qb while with the Saints, but for some reason people like to catergorize him as the one of the worst players ever. The guy was a borderline probowler for a few years and probably a top 15 quarterback all of his years with the Saints except his last.

Dude could throw interceptions in the endzone like no other.

A lot of people don't like that the team was bad, yet two eventual starting quarterbacks were behind him on the depth chart. He show flashes of brilliance, then ruined it with a fumble or badly thrown pass. He's not the worst quarterback I've ever seen, but it was hard to praise the good things he did when he would do something really stupid immediately after.

Once AB got paid he stopped using his feet and tried to do it all with his arm, but he was a very productive runner in his first year.

This is something I will never understand. What part of our team's history has made Saints fans so uppity about qbs? I think there is an argument that he was at worst the 3rd best QB in Saints history. Yeah he smiled after INTS sometimes, big deal, having a frown will not bringing the ball back into the offense's hands.
I will agree that he did not live up to the potential of his talent, but he was far from a shitty qb.

And in an interview not long ago he said that was the worst mistake of his career.
because Brooks was hurt, genius

Because football is an emotional game and fans went slowly insane after years of watching him laughing on the sidelines after a pick or skipping and whistling back to the locker room after losing a game at the very end. It negated all the good things he ever did.
I will say he was an utter godsend after the wilderness years of Shuler, Collins, and the Billy Joes.

Delhomme had one good game and one horrible game as a Saints QB so everyone who was psychic and knew he'd be the next big thing is full of shite. Delhomme over an injured Brooks became obvious only in hindsight.

Brooks wasn't as bad as Ryan Leaf, Steve Walsh, Alex Smith, Cade McNown, Akili Smith, Dan McGwire, Shaun King, Patrick Ramsey, Rob Johnson, Dave Wilson, Jim Drunkenmiller, Tim Couch and many many more bad QBs that have quickly come and gone.....yes i do have too much time on my hands...

aaron brooks was the shite for most of his career in nola. he was in the discussion for top 5 QBs for a couple of years
I wouldn't go that far. He was very good at times, but also terrible at times. I think mostly what pissed ppl off was his careless appearance. He may have cared but he surely never showed it. He didn't have that fire in him. Not to mention that by his own teamates accounts he wasn't a very good leader. If there is one thing a QB must be its a leader. I was never one that called him stupid, the dude went to Virginia, not exactly the easiest school there is. Its really a shame, he had all the physical tools you want in a QB. If he had just had that burning drive to be successful on the field he could have been great.
