The Tiger ruggers won the Western Division this weekend by beating Colorado State and The Air Force Academy.

This puts the Tigers in the sweet 16 as a #3 seed. They will face Utah in 2 weeks in Berkley CA.

The amazing thing is the weather was below freezing and LSU was able to beat two teams who are used to these conditions.

Go Tigers.

Rooad, having played some rugby for LSU it think you're comment is dickless.

Tough sport played by tough people, almost no finacical backing from LSU.

So pack sand dickhead

lost to Hufflepuff yesterday. we were ahead going into the final minutes but then their seeker snagged the golden snitch. a heartbreaking loss but afterwards we all went to drown our sorrows in some butterbeer from the three broomsticks in hogsmeade

The funny thing is the uninformed fan looks at rugby as nothing but a drinking sport, etc. the reality is that currently the best rugby played in the country is played at the division 1 college level. College teams routinely beat the best men's clubs in the US (not unlike at the inception of pro football when the academies would beat the first pro teams).

So, nice job running down a team that is seeded #3, playing in the premier league in the nation.

for your viewing pleasure...

Actually mostly home grown. Louisiana has one of the best HS rugby programs in the country. They actually won the HS All Star national championships a couple years ago.

Several former LSU rugby players have started HS teams around the state and this has led to a great feeder system into LSU.

Thanks. Had no idea they played the game at the high school level in N.O.

Good to know. Glad to see they're doing well.

Jesuit, Brother Martin, Rummel, and Shaw all have thriving high school rugby programs which are coached by current and former players of the New Orleans Rugby team.

There is also a rugby program at ESA in the Lafayette area and a Baton Rouge area high school rugby program.

When I played we beat a traveling club from Scottland.

Also to answer someone elses question, the majority of the guys were local that played when I did. Yep, no pads and you can't leave the game and come back in. So, you don't leave the field unless you're carried off. I'll never forget at a tourney some guy for (i think SLU) came out with a nick and he was ragged like no other.

Two from the SEC, Two from the Big 10, One from the Pac 10 and the rest non BCS conference teams. Instead of some of the BS they cover I would like to see ESPN feature this tourney. Looks like it could be fun to watch.
