Tiger Weekly plagiarizes Afreaux's Sangria restaurant review

Was looking at reviews for this place and found Afreaux's first. Then I found an eerily similar Tiger Weekly review here: LINK
Afreaux:

Tiger Weekly:
Coincidence? Or am I just a retard and does Afreaux work for Tiger Weekly?
Afreaux:
quote:
"The menu is a peculiar mix of Tex-Mex, Central American, Caribbean, South American and Spanish dishes."

Afreaux:
quote:
"The restaurant interior is something of an upscale sports bar, there are just as many booths as there are tables (white tablecloths). The inside is dark wood and some exposed brick, with vaulted ceilings, six flat planel TV sets on the walls. The bar is a good 25 feet long, with another bar counter opposite with stools that runs about 20 feet."

Oh snap. This could get interesting if he doesn't work for TW.

Wow, nice find.
I've done journalism work on the side ever since college, but I've never written for Tiger Weekly.
Pretty shameless that the guy copied and pasted my comments, but also foolish of him in that anyone Googling "Sangria Baton Rouge" will see my review from December as one of the first results.

Afreaux, I value your opinion when it comes to restaurant reviews...will you go eat at Maria's in Denham and do a write-up on it?

LSUsmartass works for TW and is looking for some more free content.

Well I say you call the editor up and talk to them about it. Absolutely unethical on the writer's part and you can bet the editor would like to know that something like this is happening on his watch.

Ah, jeez...
For those who aren't aware, I was the editor of TW from November '06 to August '08. I'm about to enter my fifth year as a writer for the publication. Even though I'm not in school anymore, I still do a couple of columns and help out with some copy editing for them each week as a hobby and am always in close contact with the person who replaced me this year. If someone has not yet e-mailed Kayla Falgoust (the current editor), I will address this with her and make sure she knows where the content came from. I am certain she has a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism just as I did and just as any publication should.
I'm very disappointed that this writer in particular chose to plagiarize. He joined the staff in the summer of '08, and outside this incident, and assuming he has not plagiarized in the past, he's extremely reliable, self-motivated, and an overall good guy as far as I've seen. Unfortunately, something like this just throws all that out the window.
I just hate this kind of crap. It ruins the credibility of the entire publication when a writer, cut-and-dry, steals someone else's words without crediting them.
With new hires, I used to run all their articles in a web-based plagiarism checker for the first few weeks; unfortunately, plagiarism is usually done out of desperation rather than a lack of talent, and it can happen any time without warning. I can at least say I never personally discovered a TW writer plagiarizing something when I was editor, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Anyway, that's that, and it's a shame.
