Their life goal is to leave where they are from and move to the South and live in a garbage neighborhood?

Probably better than getting taxed to hell and freezing your arse off every winter

I don’t see them doing Horton homes.

SOP for many of them has been to move down and buy a house in cash, severely overpaying market price because it is still cheaper than where they came from.

I've seen the opposite. They go into established neighborhoods and drop a bag over asking and remodel them.

Biggest reason of 25-30% housing inflation in FL since 2000.

Then who is buying all this new trash? Corporations?

I keep hearing that younger people can’t afford to buy a home.

Are there seriously any Somalis in Louisiana?

I think that Somalis actually only make up about 1% of the population of Minnesota. But they end up creating such a ruckus that it seems like they make up 40% of the population of the state.

Even the wokest liberals rarely will be fond of Somalis.

The Maine Somalis don't seem to be quite as bad as the Minnesota Somalis, though. (At least you hear less things online about bad behavior by the Maine Somalis.)

I see entirely too many New Jersey license plates here. But I guess if I'm seeing that license plate it may mean they still live there and not here.

Other things I see..."We need more affordable housing!" but then at the same time "stop developing everything!"

1) You can't have it both ways
2) Any housing at any price level helps balance the market and bring down prices across the board
3) Many people do not understand basic economics

Other states pay higher wages. Hit retirement then move to cheaper Louisiana where house prices are half of their home state.

It depends on the location. There's lots of neighborhoods and condos by LSU where parents step in and buy the house, pay their kid's portion, then rent rooms to other kids.

In more suburban areas, people are still buying houses, even if they can't afford them. There's a huge housing shortage nationwide. You're also seeing more multi-family cohabitation.

There's not much benefit to renting these days. It costs as much or more to rent as opposed to buying unless you have roommates.

I have a friend who is a financial planner in the bay area. Part of his consultation with people who are later in their career and feel that they don't have enough for retirement is telling them "You can address all of your concerns if you're willing to change location".

Housing supply is back at March 2020 levels LINK

And significant amounts of new inventory continues to come online LINK

To describe it as a nationwide housing shortage is also inaccurate. Many cities are back to pre-pandemic levels. For example, here's Columbus, Ohio LINK

The market will always recover, as we've seen time and again, it just doesn't happen overnight and we had one of the greatest migrations of the last 100 years happen during covid (and 10s of millions of non-citizens joined the housing fray during that time as well).

Pretty rare for someone to retire and move north, also winter absolutely blows arse. Much like company and fish, it is only good for a few days.

My dad and most other folks we know from the 'Scons with the means just become snowbirds, but will change their residency to someplace like Florida for tax benefits. He's gonna head north to WI from Fort Myers this week, and will spend most of the summer on the lake in Wisconsin's Northwoods.

I’m cool with Yankees. It’s the damn California people that I don’t want here.

Yankees talk funny but they’re not weirdos. They love food and sports much like the south.
