B-
Thought they’d have spent another pick on defense at this point, but the team just has so many holes. Seemingly every position needs to be upgraded. I don’t hate giving Shough more to work with though, just unsure on Tyson’s injury history. He looks like a great player when in the field though

It seems like the Saints haven't made one of the monumental blunders that they're prone to do. So I'm fine with it.

I guess inconclusive because I don’t know what we got, but for getting quality players at positions of need, I’m going with an A.

Tyson - best receiver in the draft and major position of need

Miller - powerful DT to help stop the run and compliment Bresee

Delp - athletic TE who can be another weapon for Shough

Today, we can get a CB, DE, G, and a LB and this would be a successful draft in regards to adding players who can compete and make the team

A-

Remains to be seen but for a team that went 6-11 with the 9th ranked defense last year taking two offensive guys with first 3 picks makes a lot of sense. To me doubling down on receiver vs Delp could be argued if you truly have concerns about Tyson staying healthy (I don’t have significant concerns).

Defensively our biggest issue was stopping the run and I think the miller pick was a step in the right direction in doing that.

What also remains to be seen is the impact of the guys we lost vs drafting their replacements through day 2. We didn’t do that but again I’m still all in on making the offense better and giving our new qb some weapons.

I’m very good with our draft thus far.

Flashback to one example of the talking heads and draft grades.

The Saints shocked the world with their second-round pick.

With the No. 40 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough.

This pick shocked the NFL world as Shough was the third quarterback taken off the board, after Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart, and he was picked ahead of Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.

quote:

NFL Draft Grades: D- Of all seven rounds, this might be my least favorite selection. The only reason it doesn't get an "F" grade is because I want to give Shough the benefit of the doubt.

If the Saints wanted a quarterback, they had a few options. They could have done what the Giants did and trade up for Dart, who's a much better quarterback than Shough.

Or they could have waited until the later rounds to select somebody like Kyle McCord, Jalen Milroe, or Will Howard, all of which are comparable to Shough.

Instead, the Saints used a premium selection on a quarterback who's going to be nearly 26 years old by the time the season starts.

Though is older than Trevor Lawrence and Lawrence has played in 60 NFL games, thrown 69 NFL touchdowns, and been in the league for four years.

Ja'Marr Chase is also younger than Shough and he's been in the league for four years and has over 5,400 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns.

quote:

The Saints whiffed on this pick. Shough doesn't have the ceiling to take them to the Super Bowl, yet they used a top 40 pick on him. It isn't likely this pick ages well.

I think it fell perfectly for rounds 1 and 2.

Tyson being the best WR in the draft will help our young QB tremendously. And the more I look at Miller the more excited I get, that guy is locked in and on a mission. We needed some dawgz like him in the locker room. I like his presence more than McDonald even.

I think Delp was a great fit but don’t love the value, though I think there was a run on the TE’s forcing our hand

If we can get CB K Scott today, which I thought he’d be a good value at 73, it’ll be a great draft

I agree, I really thought he was going to be a late 2nd rounder. It’s curious that he’s still on the board. I would love to get him today, I think he fits right into the star role.

A rotational pass rusher, IOL, RB, and another WR (Hedenreich) and we are in business

B+ for me so far.
I wasn’t a fan of the Tyson pick because of the injuries, but if he stays healthy it’s a steal.

It could be argued that Miller and Delp are both top 2 players at their positions, and there was going to be a massive talent drop off at those positions after those picks. Most of the TE’s in this class aren’t capable blockers and receivers.

Miller will probably mainly play NT, but is athletic enough to move around on the DL, which Staley is known to do.

Delp offers both and one of the more explosive TE’s after the catch. He and Zachariah Branch may be better pros due to how Georgia used them in their offense.

When you look at the draft through the lens that this is a multiple year rebuild and our defense was pretty good last year, I think it's OK. We need a CB and Edge, plus some depth at ILB, but we took good players who look like they can help this year on offense. If they hit on some of the defensive talent that has fallen a bit then they can still get some of the depth we need, just probably not the impact starters. Still we didn't trade up, and we didn't reach as far as I can tell.

Don't forget the offense was bad for large parts of last year and Shough was throwing to bottom of the barrel receivers by the end of the year.

B+

What?! I was totally looking forward to drafting the project DT from Holy Cross College of Montana with our first rounder.

I feel like the first time in forever we actually addressed needs and didnt get overly cute with the picks and take randos and overthink the picks.
