It's a horrible idea to build a major emergency transport route below grade

I'll be dead by the time it's finished

Boston did it…with federal money.

Did that part of Houston flood after Hurricane Harvey?

All of Houston was flooded during Harvey

But yes, and for the poster that mentioned Bostons dig

boston doesn't have flooding several times a year like Houston does

It never would have happened had Emmett still been judged but lina hidalgo sylvester turner and the Corruption at the state level with dan pat

4:48 (frozen) is what I think of and feel when I think of Houston.

No thanks.

I lived on I-45 for a disproportionate time of my life. Scar tissue.

The current design of I-45 through (around) downtown is atrocious. It backs up coming from north and south, the new plan is ambitious, but also necessary for the city to grow and become more citizen friendly. I am for this project to continue even though I’ll be retired by the time it’s done. And yes, I have lived in midtown (south of the Pierce elevated and other places in the city while working downtown throughout my career.)

i thought the whole point of tearing up 10 was to move it above flood plain. how are they going to do the exact opposite here

This will be such a cluster for traffic. The Hardy will be full of cars and no longer worth the toll. 290 and to a lesser extent I-10 will also get traffic spillage from people traveling from the northwest into the city. I cannot even imagine how bad it will be. Although I can work remotely most days, I choose not to. I will need to seriously rethink that if this goes forward.

I've lived in Houston long enough to know that it will be 3X over budget, take 4X as long to build and traffic will be twice as bad as it was before.

I've lived here for 30 years and cannot recall a time when 610/59 interchange by the Galleria was not under construction. It is still a log jam getting through there.

Light-rail fever lasted a quarter century but it's big-dig time now baby.

The Ike-Dike will protect the big dig from flooding.

The current setup with 45 needed to change in my opinion, however this project will be an absolute cluster. There had to be a better option

I was thinking the same thing.

I saw the same thing around Vegas where the road sits in a valley. But at least in Vegas it is a desert and rains just a few days a year.

Houston rains probably 40-60% of the year. So Houston will need lots of pumps to work all the time. Since it is government, I wonder how would Houston’s public service sector rank on the level with New Orleans’s Sewerage and Water Board employees in keeping power and the pumps working in a rain event.
