Can NIL money be taken away?

Just wondering if NIL money can be taken away from a player that was brought over to play a certain sport, and that player never really lived up to the expectations. If the player is essentially a bust, can the payment be cancelled?

Easy 50 downvotes based on retard level alone

I’m no expert… but I believe that it cannot be “pay for play”. Meaning NIL pay cannot be tied to on-field performance at all.
Honestly, I’m not even certain if you can tie it to being on the team. Meaning if a player quits the team, does that void his contract? Pay back what was given to him? Etc….

Essentially no, NIL is paid from contracts to 3rd parties. Pay for play or performance is prohibited. You can withdraw renewals if a player did not merit a new contract. So it depends on how the contracts are structured.

short answer...no
NIL deals are basically just "endorsement" deals and not directly tied to playing time or performance (and by law, cannot be directly linked)
however, like any contract, I'm sure there are legal ways to get out of it for both sides. It just can't be worded in a way that specifically says it's because of performance.

I wonder if NIL could be based upon something similar to the tour de france or Nascar sponsorships where the amount of time you are in the lead or actual time on TV is a factor. Whereby if someone fails to play, they aren't on the field or on TV so their NIL decreases.

NIL is pay for their name, image, and likeness…NOT performance.

In the NFL they have fines for being late to meetings, conduct detrimental to the team, and other issues. The CBA negotiates them, but it is to hold them accountable.

No, its a name in likeness deal. Can't be about playing. Same as if a 5*never sees the field...he gets all the money (for that year)

I'm guessing in some ways it can because glasscock mentioned fining guys that are late for meetings, practice etc but no not for being a straight up bust

In other words.....all they gotta do is SHOW UP and spit!

You paid for his image and likeness, not his/her performance. Paying for performance is strictly prohibited, at least on paper.

That's why I prefer the handshake deals. If you don't produce, no handshake.

correct, but the value of his image and likeness rises and falls based on performance.
so somewhere in those contracts, the companies are likely giving themselves an out clause of some type.
it just can't be specifically worded to be based on production.

This would create a total shite storm of negative publicity that would be an incredible impediment to recruiting. It could also raise issues and result in litigation if a player alleges a coach was ordered to reduce his playing time to save money.

Even in St James Parish, a contract is a contract. And NIL deals are contracts.
