I'm running some of these mocks, and it just seems like the prudent thing to do this year if Love/Styles/Bailey aren't there.

I'm liking the idea of a trade down with the Rams (we trade 8, they give 13, 61 and 2027 2nd) or Ravens (we trade 8, they give 14, 45 and 2027 2nd). That puts us in position to select maybe Lemon/Tyson/Ioane.

I might even trade down again with the Vikings to try to get Colton Hood / Malachi Lawrence in the early 2nd if we trade some of those picks around.

Will this be the year?

huge part of me still wants to assume there's a greater chance we move up to 5-6 spot than trade down spots despite the logic.

The question, as it is often forgotten, is not who wants to trade down, but who wants to trade UP? Is there anyone good enough that a team would want to pay the Saints and significant enough amount to entice the Saints to move back from 8? Particularly given this front office virtually never trades back

There are like 9 blue chippers in the draft this year. This is literally the only year that I don't want to move down.

I could see the Rams moving up for a receiver with the Puka rehab news

We aren't trading down in the first period. Possibly the 2nd but doubtful. Based on our history we are more likely to either trade up or stay put.

Thats what he is saying Proximo. The lack of top tier talent is why the poster doesn’t want us trading down.

I agree with this. I think there are only 10 players in the top echelon and then there's a drop off. I want to stay pat this year and take one of the top players. It's a top heavy draft and a big drop off mid-3rd round.

Ah okay, there still aren’t 9 which is why that was confusing. More like 4-5

Mendoza, Love, Styles, Downs, Bailey. That’s the list

The rest have some projection needed (Reese), measurable questions (Bain), injury questions (Tyson), the tackles could just be guards, no top end DL

Brian Baldinger was saying that with talking to scouts around the league, there's a consensus that the strength of the draft is in the defensive front seven.

so it makes you wonder if a team is looking to move up is that the position or positions that they are looking to go after?

the drafts where most agree the prudent move is to trade back is when its most difficult to actually trade back for decent value, especially from our slot.

Love would probably be the one that would need to fall to us for a team to get antsy and trade up for our pick. If one of the edges or styles somehow falls to us, then we have to keep the pick.

I think the key is the Rams because of their receiver issue and they’re in win-now mode. The Ravens are also willing to be aggressive since they almost traded two 1’s a few weeks ago

The Cowboys are another one of those teams that is under a lot of pressure

Giants just got a bonus pick at 10 and might want to move up a bit in case anyone tries to jump them for Tyson

If Bailey falls, keep it but not Bain

There are like 5 guys that could be available that I'd be fine with at our pick, so I'd certainly have no issue trading back a few spots if the price is right

But I also understand Mickey's position that if you're moving back, you have less options and in theory, worse players to choose from

I’d shake their hand off for that but the “Rams” thing to do would seem to give all that for an established player that will help them win the Super Bowl this year.

It's by far the most logical move without any real elite talent this year.

The laser beams were engraving this a week or 2 ago when even NFL insiders/executives started the "ignore positional value" talk.

If we're not going to trade down, and we're ignoring positional value, shouldn't Ione be the clear-cut pick? The fact that it fills a need is secondary.
