Jay has to get a whole hell of a lot better at evaluating catchers.

The bulk of what he’s had here has been pretty crap.
Milazzo and Hernandez being there exceptions, and look how those two years turned out.
Start evaluating catchers from the standpoint of catching and not whether they can hit.

He inherited Milazzo and Trav. Hernandez was a hit. Everyone else is lacking significantly.

Fair enough, we’ve been pretty damn weak at that position for a while now. Last really defensive catcher we had was Milazzo.

I guess I kind of forgot that, didn’t he and Milazzo come in in the same year? I’m guessing it was a Mainieei recruit, but Milazzo being a hometown boy was likely coming here either way.

In his defense, the number one rated catcher in Texas was a defensive bust two years in a row.

Why is the new trend to teach catchers to put one knee down and the glove on the ground?

Catching is hard. Especially when pitchers are trying to develop new stuff.
Most of our problems are wild pitches, not passed balls

Cade Arambide as the #1 HS catcher in the country and Omar Serna as the #4 catcher in the country isn't good evaluation.
I don't know with some of y'all.
Jay is 2-4 IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS at LSU, not making the SEC Tournament, not making the NCAA tournament, not even making Omaha. National F'N Champions.
These kids are paid more than minor leaguers...they can be thrown under the bus at this point if they suck one year to the next.

We let Brady Neal walk. He's only allowed 4 passed balls all year and is hitting .370 with 7 homers

You also forgot Milozzo couldn't hit if he was in a church softball league. He was a Hal Hunter at the plate.

Josh Jordan is a not a good catching coach and isn’t much better as a 3rd base coach.

No. We certainly have pitchers that have control issues. But our catchers are missing balls that other catchers catch. That breeds a problem bc then your pitchers know it’s hard to throw some pitches bc they will result in passed balls. Our pitching staff last year knew that Hernandez wasn’t letting a perfect strike bounce out of his mitt to let someone score from third base. This staff has regressed. That is not debatable. The only part we can debate is how much of it is on the coaching of the pitchers and how much of it is related to the catchers not managing the staff the way a good catcher can.

Who gives a flying flip? He’s a catcher. You take that stud defense over hitting 10 out of 10 times.
