Putting certain people in jail stopped them from killing other certain people.

The same as almost everywhere else following the post-Covid spike.

We had a huge increase in crime starting in 2021 going through about Q3 of 2023, and then a dramatic fall. This is found almost everywhere nationally in the US.

quote:

What changed:

1) New U.S. Attorney replaced a soft-on-crime predecessor and immediately started actually prosecuting, including seeking the death penalty for the worst offenders.

2) There's more visible law enforcement presence now. Federal law enforcement and the National Guard deployed to cover a 50-year low in local police staffing -- a hole created by city council budget cuts that some estimate will take a decade to fully close.

3) Ended policy of refusing to charge juveniles as an adult, signaling to the youth that there will be consequences for their crimes. The prior admin prosecuted exactly one juvenile for armed carjacking over a decade, so gangs recruited juveniles to steal cars. Arrest-to-offense ratio for carjacking went from 25% to 58% last year.

The fact that DC implemented all of these only to do the same as everywhere else doesn't indicate these idiosyncratic policies did much. This is similar to the myth about Rudy and NYC, who implemented his policies at the right time when crime was already going down (and going down everywhere).

Wouldn't this be a win for...Biden?

2024 crime in DC hits a 30-year low

quote:

Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years, according to data collected by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and announced by United States Attorney Matthew M. Graves. A breakdown of the data is available here.

In addition to the overall violent crime reduction, homicides are down 32%; robberies are down 39%; armed carjackings are down 53%; assaults with a dangerous weapon are down 27% when compared with 2023 levels, with the District reporting the fewest assaults with dangerous weapons and burglaries in over 30 years.

Or did DC anticipate Trump winning in 2024 and they got scared straight preemptively?

Note for smoothbrains: I'm not actually giving credit to Biden for 2024.

2024 was the lowest in 30 years.

And crime is falling like that almost everywhere

Like Baltimore

quote:

In 2025, Baltimore recorded 133 homicides - the fewest in nearly 50 years. This is the third consecutive year homicides have decreased by double digits. The city also saw the largest year-over-year percentage decrease in homicides ever recorded, with homicides declining by 31%. The number of non-fatal shootings declined from 423 in 2024 to 311 in 2025, a 24.5% decrease. Since 2021, homicides and shootings have both declined by nearly 60%: homicides by 58.7% and non-fatal shootings by 57.3%. The number of juvenile homicide victims in 2025 also declined by 78% compared to 2024. BPD also seized over 2,480 firearms seized and 264 ghost guns,

New York City

quote:

In 2025, New York City recorded 688 shooting incidents, shattering the previous record low set in 2018 by 10 percent with 66 fewer shootings (688 vs. 754). Compared to 2024, shooting incidents declined 24 percent, a staggering 216 fewer shootings (688 vs. 904). In the fourth quarter of 2025, shooting incidents decreased 36 percent (134 vs. 211) compared to the same period last year. In December, there were only 35 shooting incidents citywide — the fewest shootings ever recorded in any single month in New York City history.

quote:

The historic decline reflected a citywide effort, with reductions across all five boroughs in 2025 and Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island each recording the lowest number of shooting incidents in their history. Shooting incidents declined by 38 percent in Manhattan, 26.7 percent in Staten Island, 25.4 percent in the Bronx, 24.4 percent in Queens, and 15 percent in Brooklyn.

Chicago

quote:

Citywide, homicides are down 31.5%, shootings are down 40.5%, vehicular hijackings are down 47%, and all violent crime is down 29.5% since early September, year-to-date.

New Orleans

quote:

According to the NOPD, all violent crime is down across the city compared to 2024.

Murder is down 15% since 2024, excluding the 14 victims who were killed in the Bourbon Street terror attack.

According to NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, New Orleans has become safer and safer every year since 2022.

quote:

In all, violent crime in New Orleans is at historic lows.

You do understand when this crime decrease started under Biden I said it had nothing to do with him, right?

Back then I was told the stats were fake. I knew they would continue to fall and the hypocrisy would be yuge.

I can speak to the Memphis situation. See, what happened was people started talking to the citizens of Memphis and telling them they were going down a wrong path and making bad life decisions. They realized the error of their ways and started acting right. That's exactly what transpired.
