Specifically, are those dudes the baddest mfs the US military ever produced? Reading stories and listening to podcasts about them and I’m really astounded that any of em ever came back.

That’s the most acronym I’ve seen in such a short statement and I’ve been in technology for 25 years.

I listened to that episode with Dynamite Dick Thompson on the Shawn Ryan show, that was one of the most incredible stories I have ever heard, truly unimaginable what he went through.

They're so badass, that after John Stryker Meyer was on Jocko Podcast 180, Meyer got his own podcast, SOGCast sponsored by Jocko in which he interviews other SOG guys, Kingbee pilots, etc.

I've seen a snail crawl across a razor blade.

SOGcast is it, give it a listen.

Not to be that guy, but SOG and LRRP were two different, but related, groups. SOG were Green Berets leading indigenous troops in Recon Teams across the border in Laos and Cambodia attempting to interdict the Ho Ch Minh Trail. The Army through MACV-SOG was responsible for the east side of the trail and the CIA, through its Lao mercenary army, was responsible for the west side.
LRRP were attached to conventional army units at the division or brigade level and operated primarily within South Vietnam. They were regular infantry who volunteered for a three week Recondo school operated by the 5th Special Forces Group. At one point they were amalgamated into Ranger companies and the 75th Ranger Regiment considers them part of its lineage.

John Stryker Meyer, I wrote him a email about my personal connections with a family member who fought in Vietnam. He responded to my email and signed off “Airborne”. That guy is a national treasure along with veterans who served with him. John has a podcast through Jocko Willink called “SOG Cast”.

Recondo school wasn't required except for the NCO's. Enlisted men could just volunteer and go I believe. Actually some divisions (like 1st Cav) had their own internal LRRP training course. This is because there weren't enough slots in Recondo school to fill demand.
Some might ask why Army Rangers weren't used for this. After all, that's exactly what the Rangers are trained for in the first place. The answer is we deactivated all Ranger battalions after Korea and there were no Ranger units available for Vietnam. However, in 1969 the Army "redesignated" the LRRP units into "Rangers." So those guys basically became Rangers overnight. They were not given the Ranger "tab" but were given the 75th Ranger shoulder patch.

It wouldn’t be a military thread without the endless acronyms

That title belongs to the guys in CAG.
